Examples include organic matter such as compost, manure, bone meal or leaf mould, as well as synthetic fertilizers.

Leaf mould is essentially a soil conditioner. It increases the water retention of soils. To make it, fill a bin bag with leaves and moisten them. Seal the bag and then cut some holes or slits in the bag for air flow. Let it sit. Check the bag every month or two for moisture, and add water if the leaves are dry.

Chitting simply means encouraging the seed potatoes to sprout tubers before planting.

Conditioning the soil means to improve it’s ability to provide nutrition for plants.

A tuber is a food reserve bearing buds which produce new plants.
