World Book Day - Author Visit At Bishop Martin we aim to inspire all our children. We want them to enjoy the activities in school so that they go on to achieve great things. This week we have had a visit from Damian Harvey, who is a well-known author, as part of our book week celebrations. Damian worked with every class and had children laughing and learning at the same time! We have had some great feedback from him about our school. 'It was a real pleasure coming to visit Bishop Martin. Everyone was friendly and welcoming and the children were a delight. ' The children really enjoyed his visit and said, 'Best author I've met.' 'When I got home I was writing books like him.' 'He was funny and energetic.’ Several children have started to write their own books in school! A great example of how we can 'Inspire, Enjoy, Achieve'! World Book Day - Book Fair There is still time to visit our great book fair! A wide range of books are on sale today (Friday) and on Monday from 3.10-3.45. Anyone visiting the book fair will get a £1 book voucher to use at the fair or in local book shops. Come along and join the fun! Lights, Camera, Action! Year 5 Giraffes and Dolphins enjoyed an amazing day in the life of a Hollywood movie producer! With the help of Mr Eyre from The Movie Workshop, our children storyboarded, rehearsed and shot an all-action news report ‘LIVE’ from the Sky News HD studios! We had directors, runners, sound engineers, presenters and camera-operators who all came together to produce fantastic ‘Breaking News’ reports. Using the Green Screen, we were transformed into a field- reporter, having to improvise and commentate for 60 seconds without pausing (This really made the children realise how difficult live-broadcast improvisation is). Later, we had children flying over snow-peaked mountains, as Superman, others being sucked into another dimension through a worm hole, while some chose to disappear under an invisibility cloak, leaving just their heads on show! This was another outstanding example of learning enrichment through our thematic topic of ‘Lights, Camera, Action!’, and with our Class Assembly approaching fast there is even more exciting learning to be done!
