Dear Readers, As I write, there is an air of excitement about the place as plans for World Book Day fall into place. Staff and students are choosing their favourite book character so they can dress as them for the day, special lessons have been planned and enrichment activities have been organised throughout the day. All in all, a great way to end another great week in school. I think most of us have at least one favourite book, one that we can remember reading, can recall the plot of and can identify with. One that makes us smile, cry, laugh, feel good, feel sad, or a combination of all of these things. I wonder what your favourite book is? As you might expect, I struggle to choose just one because I have a number of “favourites that have grown and changed over the years. Those of you of a certain age will, I am sure, remember Enid Blyton. She was a firm childhood favourite of mine and I have many happy memories of curling up in bed under the blankets (yes blankets! Do you remember those days before duvets?) and reading my Famous Five and Secret Seven story books with a torch because I was supposed to be asleep. I used to long to be like George (Georgina actually but she was only called that when she was in trouble) and have a dog like Timmy. As an adult, I like nothing better than a good crime fiction novel, so perhaps those hours spent reading Enid Blyton have had an impact on me after all. I even managed to get the dog of my dreams, my black Labrador, although I fell short of calling him Timmy! I hope you manage to join in with the spirit of World Book day and get lost in a good book this weekend. As always, please let me know if you have any items for inclusion in our newsletter. Best Wishes Sharon Asquith Principal
