Curriculum Overview for Year 3 & 4 Spring 2 English Non-Fiction Persuasive Writing: • Discussing and reading adverts, leaflets and letters. • Explore persuasive styles through discussion, drama/role play. • Working towards creating persuasive pieces of writing.

Art & Design

Reading: Shared, guided and individual reading.

Handwriting and Spellings: • Weekly spellings following the Year 3 and 4 National Curriculum word lists.

Art of Food: explore the roles and purposes of artists, craftspeople and designers working in different times and cultures. Children will make observational studies of fruit and food in still life, with the opportunity to sketch and paint.

Design & Technology •

Mathematics

Using planning, designing and evaluating to make a model Celtic roundhouse. To design and make Roman artefacts.

Computing • •

Geography Geography / History topics are alternate terms. •

Mental Maths starters: • Practising and re-visiting skills in all areas of mental Maths. • On-going Times Table practice within lessons. • Year 3 to know 2,3,4,5,8, 10 Times Tables. • Year 4 to know all Times Tables (up to 12x12) by end of the year.

Maths Units: • Focuses on Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. • Other focuses on Handling Data (Statistics) and 2D and 3D Shape.

Modern

Languages

Developing ongoing French vocabulary and conversational phrases •

Science

History •

Investigations and activity coverage:  What is a healthy diet?  Digestion.  The digestive system.  Teeth and diets.  Our teeth and how to look after them. • •

Visit from dental nurse. Visit to Global Renewables waste management plant,- linking to a school based environmental project.

Further exploration of Celtic Britain and life before the Roman Invasion. Studying the figure of Boudicca and the impact of her leadership.

Physical

Education

Games: • Learning and practising physical skills within the topic of games. • Including travelling, sending and receiving, netball and football skills.

This term is a History based unit.

Music •

Creating apps using Espresso Coding on the netbooks. Use of the iPads for research to support Maths, English and other curriculum areas.

Continuing with recorder skills and singing (year 3). Brass and Percussion instruments (year 4). Practising singing with clear diction, control of pitch to rehearse and present an Easter performance to parents.

Religious

Education

Islam- founders and leaders, looking at role models, and finding out about leaders and traditions.
