Reading skills Students are regularly required to read and interpret text, including sources of historical evidence. They will increasingly be developing their skills to compare differing views within evidence. Research activities allow the development of the skills of scanning and skimming.

Students have many opportunities to develop their reading skills, particularly through the use of, and comparison of, historical sources.
Writing skills Students develop the skills of producing structured written work. This begins with the development of effective PEE (point, evidence and explanation) paragraphs and students will also develop and improve extended writing skills. As part of their written work, students will be encouraged to refer to sources of historical evidence. Writing skills build upon the work done in year 7 to develop extended writing. In addition, students analyse and evaluate sources of evidence.
