Year 1 Reading
Reading Books are changed regularly. Our aim is to change them daily if there is evidence of completion in their blue record book. Each morning the purple box is put in a central place so your child can place it in so we can change it. It is your child’s responsibility to place it in the purple box so it can be changed.
Please help your child to practise their reading book every night (just a few pages or a short story) and sign and date the blue record book, showing the page reached or book finished. There is room to write a comment about your child’s reading if you wish. Also in Year 1 we continue to use the word boxes from Reception class to develop their awareness of high frequency words. There are 27 high frequency word boxes in total. These will need to be practiced regularly at home alongside their reading books. Our aim is to assess your child’s ability to read them at least twice a week. In addition to this some children experiencing difficulties with their reading will participate in a programme of learning known as “Precision Teach”.
