How to support your child’s learning at home As well as helping your children to learn their times tables, here are some other ideas to support your child’s learning at home: Time Talking about time, e.g. How long is it until lunch time? The journey takes 2½ hours, when will we arrive? We need to be there at 2.00 pm, when do we need to leave home? Many children will still need practice with reading clock times, particularly minutes past and minutes to the hour. If at all possible your child should have and use a watch.

Homework Year 5 children are given learning log homework every Friday to be handed in the following week. It’s best to spread the work out through the week rather than do it all in one go. It must be completed to an acceptable standard. There will usually be a maths task, spellings to learn and a Literacy or Creative Curriculum activity. Mr Smith runs a drop in homework club on Wednesday and Friday lunchtimes for children who would like some help with their work.

Money Handling amounts of money when shopping, working out total costs, working out change, checking receipts. Working out prices of sale items, e.g. 20% off. Managing pocket money and saving for things.

Make sure you know your targets and are constantly striving to achieve them.
