How to support your child’s learning at home:  Please make sure that you look at, and sign, your child’s journal every week.  Listen to your child read for 10 minutes every day.  Help them to learn their times tables.  Ensure that your child completes their homework.  Provide your child with a quiet place to

work/read.

Don’t forget that the children will either be going swimming or doing PE on Wednesday. Please make sure that your child has the correct clothing Homework goes home on a Friday and is due in by Wednesday.

Spellings go home on Friday to be tested the following Friday.

Curriculum Overview Year 4 Spring Term 2

English: Creative Curriculum: To link with our study of pointillism animal art we will focusing largely upon animals and their habitats.

Our science work will focus upon different climates and habitats around the world, and how animals are adapted to live in them. The children will be considering the impact that humans have upon these habitats and performing investigations linked to these themes.

We will be looking at some famous historical explorers and how their journeys differ from those made today.

We will be continuing to develop our poetic skills this half term writing poems about animals represented in Rachel Dillon’s artwork.

As well as this the children will be focusing upon stories from other cultures again with an animal theme. They will be using these stories to inform and support their own writing.

Maths: Children will be building on the previous terms skills of partitioning to double and half decimal numbers. We will also consolidate using chunking to divide and grid method to multiply.

Children should continue to learn all their times tables at home.

Visits: We will also be visiting Victoria Park to explore what creatures live in our local habitat.

We will also be visited by animals from different habitats.

Art and Music: In Music we will be listening to and responding to music that has been inspired by animals.

Our art work will also be inspired by the pointillism work of Rachel Allen Dillon. The children will be learning to add tints and shades to colours which they will then use to create their own pointillism images of animals.

PE: ICT: The children will be using painting software to digitally create pointillism artwork.

This half term we will be focusing on Invasion games. Looking at the skills of passing, defending and attacking.
