Lomeshaye Life What’s Been Happening This Half Term? It has been another busy and productive half term at Lomeshaye which ended today on a and happy note as the whole school came together to celebrate our Gambian enterprise day. Once again every child in school has had a personalised mentoring meeting with their teacher and assessments show that children are making progress in all subjects. Children have developed their internet safety awareness following a special assembly in school and have the opportunity to apply what they have learnt in a competition over half term. Nicole has once again been developing our talented actors and actresses as Year 5 delivered Lomeshaye’s first ever piece of forum theatre. Gambian Enterprise Day During the last 6 weeks year 5 have been extending their learning about life in The Gambia. They have developed their empathy skills and furthered their understanding of the challenges faced by the families who live in The Gambia. They have produced some creative art inspired from African culture and planned a range of activities for their successful enterprise event which took place today including: African bottle top game, the dam game, skittles, pin the tail on the monkey, guess the weight of the coconut and lots more. All children had the opportunity to visit a year 5 classroom to take part in the activities and to watch a drumming performance from the year 5 children. All money raised will go to support our partnership school in the Gambia, providing much needed resources and helping to make a difference to children’s lives in The Gambia. Mentoring All pupils have met with their teacher this week to discuss their progress and achievement. Please take time during the half term break to discuss your child's targets and help them work towards achieving them. Homework has been set for all pupils. Please ensure it is completed to a high standard and that your child spends time reading during the holiday. Safer Internet Day 2015 On Tuesday 10th February we celebrated 'Safer Internet Day' to promote safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. A special assembly took place on internet safety to raise awareness for our pupils of the potential dangers on the internet. Miss Payne has launched a special competition over half term. Full details are available on the school website. Forum Theatre Nicole has worked on a developmental project with year 5 to explore the issues and raise awareness of bullying. Through exploration of motivation and empathy they engaged in Lomeshaye’s first ever forum theatre event. Hopefully the first of many!
