Headteacher – Mrs A Gray KS1 & KS2 Football Report The last few weeks have been a busy time for the Bishop Martin footballers. The Year 5 & 6 team played their remaining fixtures at Glenburn on Thursday 5th February winning 2 and losing 1. This meant that overall they had played 14 games winning 7, drawing 1 and losing 6 placing them 4th overall in the league. As always the boys showed great commitment, passion and team spirit. Well Done!! Team: Saul, Joel, Bailey, Phillip, James, Josh, Koby, Keelan, Bradley Next saw the turn of the Year 4 boys who travelled to JMO on a cold Wednesday night to play against 14 schools from the Skelmersdale and Upholland area. The schools were split into 2 groups with Bishop Martin playing against Holland Moor, St. Edmunds, Hillside, Woodland, St. James and St. Thomas. The boys were fantastic and won 2, drew 1 and lost 2 finishing 3 rd overall. Well Done!! Team: Ben, Harvey, Lloyd, Jo, Lewis, Declan and Aaron And last but not least the Year 1 & 2 boys got to show their skills on Tuesday 10th February at a very very cold JMO! The boys played 6 games against teams from Holland Moor, Trinity, Delphside, Woodland, Dalton and Cobbs Brow. The boys were a credit to the school and themselves winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 2. Well Done!! I would just like to take this opportunity to thank all parents and supports for coming to watch and cheer on Bishop Martin.

"Bash the Trash Music Workshop" We all loved our visitor Brian who came to deliver a "Bash the Trash Music Workshop" on Thursday. He helped us to make loud, exciting, amazing music and all out of a mixture of everyday objects. One child said "That was the best Music lesson I've ever had!" and I think we all agreed. Head Lice There has been a report of head lice in our school. “Head lice are tiny insects that live in human hair. They're particularly common in children. Head lice are whitish to grey-brown in colour, and smaller than the size of a pinhead when first hatched. When fully grown they're about the size of a sesame seed. They can't fly, jump or swim and are spread by head-to-head contact, climbing from the hair of an infected person to the hair of someone else. A head lice infestation isn't the result of dirty hair or poor hygiene. All types of hair can be affected, regardless of its length and condition.” (www.nhs.uk) Please check your child’s hair tonight and treat if necessary. For more information please see website above or call in to school receptions for a leaflet.
Awards Ceremony Last night a number of members of our school family attended an Awards Ceremony at the DW Stadium in Wigan. This event was held by Wigan Council to recognise the outstanding work carried out by children and carers within the Wigan area for Looked After Children (LAC). The school felt incredibly proud to have two pupils nominated for an award (Owen and Jack Kirby in Year Six). Also, the school would like to offer its sincere congratulations to Andrea and Tom Kirby for receiving the award for 'Outstanding Contribution to the Care of Children' from Wigan Council in recognition of their work in the area of Fostering. Congratulations from all at Bishop Martin!
