Lomeshaye Life What’s Been Happening This Week? We are already at the end of our second week of the half term and lots of exciting learning has been taking place in every class. Take a look at what we have been up to this week... Fantastic Book Awards Tour — this week we were visited by staff from the Fantastic Book Awards tour. The Fantastic Book Awards (FBA) is a special Lancashire event where schools all across the county read new fiction books and judge which they think are the best. Lomeshaye has taken part in the awards for the last three years. This year pupils from Year 6 with the support of Ms. Wilson are reading six books and they will vote on their favourites in March. The FBA tour came to school to see the work that the reading group have been completing, which included video making and acting, while they were here they took photographs of the FBA group which we hope will be used in their promotional material which is sent out to local schools. Ofsted— This week local newspapers have published the amazing news of our recent OUTSTANDING Ofsted inspection of Mathematics. On Thursday 15th January the Lancashire Telegraph contained the news on page 12 and later in the week there should be an article in the Nelson Leader. Keep an eye out for the recognition of the schools wonderful achievements and be rightly proud of the school that your child attends. The Lion King— On Wednesday 21st January all pupils from Year 3 and Year 6 will be attending the Palace Theatre in Manchester to see the fantastic production of The Lion King. The children in school have been taking part in some learning activities related to The Lion King story prior to their visit to help them to appreciate what they will see at the theatre. We hope that all of the children will thoroughly enjoy this awesome visit and come away with some spectacular memories from the day. The following week all Year 4 and 5 pupils will have their turn at the theatre. Can I remind parents that no money should be sent into school with your child for the theatre visit. Parent Champions Recruitment— Do you have an hour to spare on a Friday morning? Are you interested in support children to become effective and enthusiastic learners? Do you want to help the community and support family learning? If the answer is YES then you could become a parent champion at Lomeshaye Junior School. Parent Champions have a vital role to play in the partnership between home and school. They help to develop resources that families can use at home to support learning. There is also an opportunity for you to be trained and learn new skills that can be used to support your own children and pupils in school. If you would like to find out more about becoming a parent champion please contact school and ask for Miss Jones or Mrs. Safdar and we can tell you more.
