Friday 23rd January 2015 Our News! Firstly, a big ‘Thank You’ to all parents who have returned the booklets, ‘All about me, at home and out and about.’ It has been lovely to read all about the fantastic things they do with you at home and will help us greatly when planning their next steps of learning. We hope that you found the mathematics meeting useful on Wednesday and have emailed out all of the hand-outs and ideas for maths activities you can do at home with your child. The children have been busy writing lots of fantastic instructions over the last few weeks. They are experts now in knowing how to make snowmen and chocolate krispie cakes. They know how to number each instruction and have used some lovely time words such as first, next and finally. The children have worked together in groups to create some lovely winter collages. Thank you for all the bits and bobs you collected and sent in. Our Jack Frost junk models and art work has also made a lovely display in the open space area. Ask the children to sing and dance along to the winter and Jack Frost songs we have been learning! The children have enjoyed reading Kipper’s Toy box by Mick Inkpen. Ask them to retell the story back to you in their own words. We have been learning a new song about a Jack-in-a-box and making actions to go with it. Ask them to perform it for you! They have all been busy painting their favourite toys for in our toy shop and are ready to write descriptions of them next week! Outdoors the children have investigated which toys need a push or a pull. We have been busy in Mathematics singing lots of number rhymes and taking-away with real objects, toys in the toy shop, knocking over skittles and so on. Some of us were ready to write/draw their own taking-away sums and problems. Well done! Our PE this half term is all based around the story “Kipper’s Toybox”. During our warm up we pretend to be different toys; a train, a car, a robot, a Spiderman, a dog and a silly sock thing. Each one of these develops different ways of moving around the hall using different muscles and getting our heart rate up so we are ready to do our exercises. Our main is catching, throwing and aiming this half term. We are practising throwing under arm accurately stepping forward with our opposite leg. Why not ask the children to demonstrate and practise at home. It can be quite tricky at first. We also practise looking where we are throwing to improve our aim and think about the direction and force of our throw. It all sounds very complicated but we have lots of fun and have lots of time to practise it inside and outside during our learning time.
STARS OF THE WEEK Charlotte Jessop and Isabella Ibbison for super writing. Lexi Whitehead for being very kind and helpful. Evie Bunting for always contributing well, asking and answering questions. Our next news letter will be on Friday 6th February and will give details about all the fun activities we have planned for the next few weeks. Any questions please don’t hesitate to ring, email or come and see us. Staff email: Mrs Claydon l.claydon@carletongreen.lancs.sch.uk Mrs Catterall m.catterall@carletongreen.lancs.sch.uk
