Year 4 Spring Newsletter Home Learning Children will continue to be set home learning in their pink learning logs.

Welcome to the Spring Term in Year 4! Welcome back and Happy New Year to you all. We hope you have had a wonderful festive break and your children have enjoyed all the celebrations. Thank you very much for the lovely Christmas cards and presents we have all received. We have really enjoyed our first term and are pleased that lots of learning has taken place. The learning outcomes produced by the children last term were brilliant and we know from the parental comments on many of the topic evaluations that you have been impressed. Thank you to all parents and family members who have been able to attend our end of topic outcomes so far. The children really enjoy sharing their learning. We look forward to more fantastic learning this term!

Being Prepared for 2015 As always the children need to ensure they have a reading book and their green home link books in school every day. The home link books are checked each week, however if there is a message for school then please remind your child to hand the book to an adult in class during registration. We have reminded the children to make sure they have their home link book in school each day and that this should be signed by an adult at home each week. As the weather is colder please ensure your child has a suitable PE kit for outside games lessons. This may include tracksuit bottoms and a jumper. On the subject of cold weather, a coat is a must as the children can be outside for long periods of time during the school day. Thank you.

While most children are completing their home learning on time, at the end of last term, several children in each class were regularly forgetting to hand in their books. Just to remind you that children are invited to attend Happy Home Learning Club on Monday lunchtime in 4G if they need time or support to complete tasks. Children are expected to read and complete number learning every night. Ideas for number learning include rapid recall of multiplication facts and related facts, number bonds, doubling and halving of numbers, counting, tasks and games on Mymaths or there are links to several good sites on our school website. Reading is still as important as ever. There has been great progress in all the children’s reading already this school year and it would be great to keep this momentum going.

A New Topic for Year 4 Our history led topic focuses on the Ancient Romans. This is a new topic to year 4 and we have planned many exciting and engaging learning opportunities. The last two weeks of the Spring Term will have a Science focus as we learn more about materials and their properties. Another very busy, exciting term lies ahead and with all of us working together we know year 4 will continue to achieve great things. If you have any questions or concerns regarding your child please do not hesitate to contact the office and arrange to see your child’s teacher or pop a note in your child’s home link book.

Kind regards Year 4 Team
