Lomeshaye Life What’s Been Happening This Week?

Welcome back after the Christmas break! All of the staff at Lomeshaye Junior School would like to extend the warmest of New Years wishes to families and friends of Lomeshaye and hope that this year brings lots of good health and luck for everyone. In school we are looking forward to another exciting half term, packed with lots of amazing learning opportunities and special events. Let’s take a look at what has been happening in school this week... Year 6 Healthy Life Styles — This week our Year 6 pupils had a visit from the school nurse to help them to understand about healthy life choices, including the food we eat, the exercise that we take, how moving more can help to keep our minds and bodies healthy and also about the use of substances such as tobacco, alcohol and non-medicinal drugs. The children participated well in the sessions and we hope that information from medical professionals at a young age will help to educate our children to become healthier citizens who are able to enjoy life to the full. Later this month the nurse will be returning to complete the annual Year 6 height and weight check. Pupil Progress Meetings— Each class teacher has taken part in a pupil progress meeting in order to discuss how each child in their class is progressing with a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Following these meetings children may be grouped differently in class and may also be invited to attend extra lessons before or after school to help them with aspects of their learning that they are finding difficult. If your child is chosen to take part in a learning club before or after school please give your full support and ensure that they attend each session, these clubs are designed to help your children to make better progress and come at great expense to the school. Halal Meals—This week saw the re-introduction of halal meat to the school meals menu. All of the meat products have been sourced from Halal Monitoring Committee accredited suppliers and the kitchen is regularly inspected by members of the committee and associated Imams. If you would like your child to have a hot school meal during the day please speak to a member of staff at the school office. Creative Partner— Nicole, our creative partner will be working in school again this half term, supporting pupils in Year 5. The classes will be working on a theme titled, In Somebody Else’s Shoes. Speak to your children to find out all about the exciting work that they will be doing with Nicole focusing on drama and writing techniques.

COMING SOON... The Lion King— All staff and pupils are going to be making an amazing trip to the theatre in Manchester later this month to watch the awesome production of the musical, The Lion King. This fantastic opportunity is free of charge and will be an absolutely wonderful and memorable day for your child.
