Attendance Leaflet

High levels of attendance are vitally important, as primary school education lays the foundation blocks for all future learning.

Requests for absence during term time may only be authorised in exceptional circumstances (e.g. a child’s illness, the funeral of an immediate family member or religious observance). This will be at the discretion of the Head Teacher, and a pupil’s attendance and achievement levels will be taken into account when considering any request. A child’s absence from school for more than ten consecutive school days may result in their removal from the school roll.

How

you can help:

1. Make sure your child understands the importance of good attendance and punctuality.

2. Don’t let your child miss school for minor ailments.

3. Arrange appointments and outings after school hours or at weekends or school holidays.

4. Check the school website and newsletters for term dates when planning your holidays. Ensure holidays are booked during the 14 weeks that school is closed.

What should I do if my child is absent from school?

8.50 a.m. — doors to all classes open

9.00 a.m. — children to be in class

Pupils arriving late must enter via the main office and will receive a late mark.

* If a child has a series of late marks, this will be referred to the Early Intervention Officer.

We have a first day response, therefore each parent is called if their child is absent and we have not heard from them. 

100% class attendance certificates are given each week to classes



100% individual attendance certificates are given out at the end of each year



Referrals to Early Intervention Officer and School Nurse when required

Every week, staff produce attendance reports for pupils whose attendance has fallen below 95%. This is then investigated and followed up by the Deputy Head Teacher.

No Term-time holidays

One day absence every two weeks will reduce your child’s attendance to 90%; therefore missing 10% of their education. Please remember: attendance has a direct impact upon attainment.

We expect every pupil to strive for 100% attendance; this is to ensure children experience the best and most consistent form of school life and learning. At home, we ask that families do all they can to ensure excellent attendance; this is with particular regard to ensuring that all holidays are booked out of term-time. No holidays will be authorised during school term, as set out in the Department for Education regulations.

et the school office know the reason for absence by 9.30 a.m. on the first day of absence. Telephone the school office each day your child is absent (this ensures a child is safe and not missing on the way to school). rovide medical documentation (e.g. letters/appointment cards) in advance of any medical appointments (e.g. hospital /dentist). Routine dental check-ups or nonemergency doctor appointments should, where possible, be made outside of school hours or, if this is not possible, at the very end of the school day.

chool may request to see medical documentation from parents of children who are frequently absent from school or absent immediately adjacent to a school holiday. They may also be offered a meeting with the School Nurse.
