Year 3 (Net&Wall) PE Sports Curriculum 6 weeks

Learning Objective.

To improve hand-eye co-ordination To able to recognise to move their partner side to side.

Introduction to the activity. Make sure that children know the boundaries and understand what the individuals have to do.

Tasks

Warm Up: Children stand in the middle of the playground use to cross curricular with geography.

Children stand in the middle of the playground e.g like a compass, playground is marked out, each side of the playground is coloured. Coach shouts out North, East, West, South Commands ‘These get quicker’ More in depth’ Northwest, Southwest.

Use places e.g. Manchester, Newcastle.

Teaching Points

Set out a comfortable grid size. Make sure you shake Andy Murrays hand (grip the racket)- Demonstrate this to all the children and make sure they do this.

Park the car on the racket, make sure you direct the ball into the space provided.

G&T do this with weaker hand.

Challenge: Nicely ask the children what else they could do with a ball and racket, look at improvising Participants look at body posture be able to twist body side to side, look at movement of the forehand.

Place hoop in the middle of the floor in a between partners, make sure this is in a space, the individual twists and move body. Participants stand 5,6 yards away from the hoop and start to throw the tennis ball to each other be able to start move the participant side to side.

Cool down tasks Shake the blender, head- Body-Feet, just shake away.

Learning Objective: To understand different ways to use the racket & ball To improve hand-eye co-ordination Introduction to the activity. Make sure that children know the boundaries and understand what the individuals have to do. If individuals need support break it down into subroutines.

Warm Up: (Traffic lights) Green- GO, Yellow-Steady, Red- Stop Can change this Voice commands can get quicker or add different and add a variety of innovative ideas, such as look at different actions in tennis when participants move around

Recap on the last week briefly regarding technique. E.g Grip/body position.

Stationary: Can you Bounce the ball at different levels, using the ball as a pancake see how many bounces you can get in MINUTE (TIME). Then switch to controlling the ball on the floor and being able to dribble this in and around the area. On command Switch between the two, Progression to faster command.

Dynamic: Can you flip your racket up/down up/down as many times as possible still using the right grip. Let the children progress and enjoy being innovative this includes the quality of tennis hand eye co-ordination.

Refocus on the forehand get participants to look at hitting the ball on the floor using the forehand shot and again practice hitting the ball along the floor focus at participants moving around the area.

CHALLENGE Competition with your partner if you manage to strike the ball past your partner then you get a point le’ts see who wins!!!!

Introduction to the activity. Make sure that children know the boundaries of the area and understand what the individuals have to do. Make sure rewards go out to individuals perform will clear and questions about anything that’s in doubt.

Tasks (Free Fall)- Every child has a ball (Demo demonstrate) throws ball up lets it bouncethen catch it, use a racket bounce the ball on the racket.

Recap on the last week briefly regarding technique. E.g Grip/body position. Points of keeping your body posture straight and that your head is kept up. These can use any fundamentals learnt from past 2 weeks Using the fundamentals from last week such as bouncing, hitting, rolling use this in teamwork in a RELAY format. Be able to knit the fundamentals together and create a competitive environment.

Look at partner work hitting the ball to each other Competition: Place cones opposite each other take 6-7yards back, have your partner as a server and the other hitting shots to and from your partner Matches: Drop hit the ball to best out of 5 points look at posture and shots at partner.

Tasks Recap on the last week briefly regarding technique. E.g. Grip/body position. Points of keeping your body posture straight and that your head is kept up. Get use to the hand-eye co-ordination.

In pairs place a flat mat between you and your partner, be able to bounce the ball in your flat mat Progress from strong hand to weaker hand.

In pairs create your own gate number yourself 1&2. (ownership of lesson) Relay tell me show me-tell me, gently hit the ball back. 5 hits and turn over to your mates.

Competition to get a rally going have many rallies can you do? Winners get a certificate for number of rallies won.

Put a line of gates down the middle 5 yards apart.

 Revise Grip Technique

Recap on the last week’s technique forehand. Between pairs can the server starts to produce spin on the serve for the partner to hit the ball back.

 Use the STEP Principle

In pairs look at other types of hits such as backhand and forehand. (Demonstrate) using SPLAT TENNIS. Relay tell me show me-tell me, gently hit the ball back using the backhand on the floor using splat tennis. Participants are allowed to hit the ball to and from your partner using a select shot be able to stop the ball dead hit this ball back.

CHALLENGE: Competition to get a rally going have many rallies can you do? Winners get a certificate for number of rallies won. Also if participants won the matches can they move up and down the ladder of matches.
