Autumn Term October 2014

Welcome to our first Equality and Diversity Bulletin of the year. Many thanks to Angela Dalgleish for bringing this bulletin together. As you will read, we are already very busy promoting and celebrating the diversity of our college community and that of our wider national and global communities. We hosted a Macmillan Biggest Coffee Morning event in September and raised a fantastic £200 for this charity. This month we are focussing on raising awareness of Mental Health issues. I’m sure we all know someone who has experienced mental health issues and so please support Danielle with her awareness raising event in the Dining Room on Wednesday 8th October. I’m delighted to hear that our Journalism students are getting actively involved in our E&D work this year and I look forward to reading Aimee’s article on the Civil Rights movement, inspired by Black History Month. And finally, whilst I am genuinely glad that as a society we are trying to recognise more the valuable contribution older people make to society, I was a little bit sad that my daughter’s effort to recognise this was to ask for a selfie with me to post on her face-‐ book page!! Angela

I hope you like the new look bulletin. A big thank you to Katie Nicholls for her hard work on the design!
