Deck the classrooms with boughs of holly, unpack the Christmas decorations and locate the tinsel the countdown to Christmas has begun in Year 4. In our literacy lessons we will be sharing the books Dear Father Christmas and Letters from Santa Claus. Our learning will focus on formal and informal styles of letter writing. Please see pink learning logs for home learning tasks. These are due in on 9th December and will be shared in class during that week.

In music we will be learning the songs for our Christmas Play as well as traditional carols. Please support your child in learning the words as all children will form part of the lower school choir.

This topic will focus on our interpretation of Angels. The image of an angel is as potent today as it ever was. Angels can be seen in Churches, graveyards, in great works of art, as Christmas decorations, on wrapping paper and cards. Angels are also depicted in music. This is not exclusive to Church music, for references to angels can be found in popular music too. Children will explore angels in Christianity and Islam and are encouraged to take an open, critical and analytical approach.

In maths we will be investigating the shapes of Christmas decorations and learning about symmetry and tessellation using gift wrap. We look forward to sharing our Christmas Play, The Magical Christmas Jigsaw, during the last week of this term. We will let your child know if they need a costume. Details of ticket allocation have been sent out so please respond accordingly.
