Lomeshaye Life What’s Been Happening This Week? Pupils have continued to reflect this week on the lives of less fortunate . All pupils took part in an assembly about ‘World Toilet Day’ which highlighted issues people all around the world face every day. Find out more below. The 100% attendance club received a special treat and lots of other new and exciting clubs are taking place across school! World Toilet Day Right now, one in three children does not have access to a basic toilet. As a result, ten million under-fives have tragically lost their lives since 2000. 1. 2.5 billion people – around one in three of the world's population – don't have a safe, clean, private toilet. 2. Last year Water Aid helped 2.9 million people gain access to toilets – that's 8,000 people a day. 3. Around 500,000 children die every year from diarrhoea caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation – that's almost 1,400 children a day. 4. Every year, around 60 million children are born into homes without access to sanitation. 5. More people in the world have a mobile phone than a toilet. To raise awareness of World Toilet Day year 5 pupils designed posters which will be published on our new school website: www.lomeshaye.lancsngfl.ac.uk Clubs This year has seen the launch of an exciting number of new club opportunities for pupils across the school. Year 3 pupils have been learning Spanish and will deliver a special assembly on Monday morning for the whole school. Year 5 pupils have enjoyed a new cricket club and have been leaning new skills every week. There is also a new games and debating club which have proved very popular. This is in addition to all of the clubs that are well established such as table tennis, choir, film club, homework club and many more. Academic clubs are also taking place for pupils in all year groups.
