Ashton Highlights Newsletter 8

Friday 21st November 2014

Dear Parents/Carers It gets more difficult as each week passes to decide which highlights to include in the newsletter, which is a strangely wonderful dilemma to face! There is always such a lot going on in school, both in lessons and outside the school day, that choosing one activity over another is almost impossible sometimes. Our Post 16 staff and students have had an incredibly busy month, taking the name of Ashton out into the Preston area and beyond to market our provision. They have attended option evenings at a number of schools in the city and have had an incredibly positive response to the courses we offer. Many students have accepted invitations to the master classes that will be running later this term and there is a real excitement and buzz around the post 16 centre as learning experiences are planned to cater for our visitors. On the subject of Post 16 success, you will read all about Tejay D’Andrea on page 3, who took part in the World Skills UK competition and has now been placed in the top 7 finalists in the country. An awesome achievement and one that makes us very proud of this particular member of our school family. I am sure you are aware that we have a number of deaf students in school who are supported by our specialist deaf support team, led by Mrs Sutton. Many staff and students have expressed a desire to learn to sign, and never one to shy away from a challenge, Mrs Sutton has offered a sign language club that runs each week. Our choir are also busy rehearsing for the Christmas show and have included a Christmas song that is both sung and signed. Please come along to the show or watch out for our choir performing around the Ashton area in the run up to Christmas, since this particular number above all the others is guaranteed to bring a lump to your throat. Tickets for the Christmas show are selling fast, so if you haven't got yours yet, I would urge you to make haste! You will find more details on page 8. As always, we are always pleased to hear of any successes you wish to share, so please contact me in the usual way. Best wishes Sharon Asquith Principal Follow us on twitter @ashtoncsc 1
