Year 1 Topic All Creatures Great and Small Through building up a body of key foundational knowledge and concepts, children should be encouraged to recognise the power of rational explanation and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity about natural phenomena. They will be encouraged to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes. To inspire in children a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives. Teaching will equip children with knowledge about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments. English Read and write both non fiction and fiction relating to animals after studying texts including Tiger Who Came to Tea and All About Owls Maths Data handling, sorting, measuring Art Painting ,drawing collage animals and environments History How animals have helped us in the past. Geography Animals from different parts of the world.
