Dear Parents/Carers, It has been a week of reflection this week, with our attention very much on Remembrance Day and all that goes with it. We marked the official ending of the Great War on Tuesday with a 2 minute silence, during which time every member of our school family and visitors showed their respect for the fallen. The silence was broken only by the haunting sound of the Last Post, which brought goose bumps to many as it echoed around the stillness of the school. You can read about other activities we have been involved in for Remembrance on page 3. Running club has got off to a flying start! Read more about it on page 2 and if you are a keen runner, or think you might be a runner in the making, then please join in. Year 11 start their mock exams this week, which can be quite a stressful experience for them (and for members of their family too). You will find some useful tips on page 2 to support you, but please remember that we are also happy to offer help, reassurance and guidance to students if they are having difficulty coping. Sadly, cancelling the exams is not one aspect of help we are going to offer, but thank you to those year 11’s who made this helpful suggestion! If it is any consolation, the staff training session on Thursday after school included a session on literacy, which ended in a test for all staff to check their understanding, so please be assured that the adults in school really do know how you feel! I hope you enjoy reading the “Spotlight” article on page 4 from our senior student leaders. They are an incredibly talented and inspirational group of young people who seem to do something every single day that makes us proud to have chosen them. They hold this office for one year and each year the bar is raised, so current year 10’s have a lot to aim for. As always, we are pleased to receive information for forthcoming newsletters, so if you would like to share your success with the wider school community, please pass any details on to me either in person, by telephoning school or by email. Please check our Twitter feed out too if you haven’t already added us; you’ll find it’s been a busy week again, including a successful taster session for new menu choices in the dining room.
