Lomeshaye Life What’s Been Happening This Week? Pupils have had a wonderfully creative week which started with a bang on Monday with a Carousel Day focusing on the theme ‘Remembrance.’ Pupils came to school dressed in a range of outfits to commemorate 100 years since the start of the First World War. Today pupils have taken part in a non-uniform day to raise money for Children in Need. Carousel Day— 2014 marks 100 years since the start of the First World War. All classes took part in a fun and engaging Carousel Day where they were given the opportunity to work with pupils in other year groups to explore the Remembrance theme using geographical, historical and artistic skills. Many pupils and staff dressed up in clothes from the 1910’s and there were plenty of soldiers, nurses and Land Army women to be seen, as well as lots of poppies. Pupils learnt about life in the trenches, the symbolism of the poppy and much more. To finish the day, the pupils watched a live assembly from the Tower of London. It was an enjoyable day but pupils also learnt to reflect and develop empathy. “I really enjoyed making the trench cakes with Miss Farrar. We learnt that they are made without egg because they were rationed and not always available.” Malaika Naz 4 Chestnut. Hammad Imran added, “It was a touching and heart warming day.” ATTENDANCE— Parents have a legal obligation to ensure that their child attends school every day.
