Lomeshaye Life What’s Been Happening This Week? Welcome back after the half term break, everyone has arrived in school ready to learn and excited about the new themes in their classes. This half term has got off to a sensational start with visits and new work being launched in school. Let’s find out what has been happening this week... Year 6 Cinema Visit— On Tuesday all of our Year 6 pupils attended the Vue Cinema in Accrington where they thoroughly enjoyed an action packed show of ‘Earth to Echo.’ Earth to Echo is a science fiction film which follows the journey of Echo who is lost and needs help to get home. The film was different from anything the children had seen before as it was filmed in the first person. The film developed children's empathy skills as it focused on a child who was fostered and only had three friends. It also taught the children important information about cyber bulling. The children were commended on their excellent behavior on the trip and both classes were awarded a certificate to acknowledge it. Well done year 6! Hebden Bridge Picture House—All of the Year 5 pupils visited the picture house in Hebden Bridge on Wednesday where they were treated to a screening of “The Wind Rises” a historical animated story set in Japan at the time of World War II. This visit was the launch to the new Year 5 theme of “Conflict” which will include the development of pupils Historical and Geographical skills. Year 4 Science in the Park—Thursday afternoon saw pupils in Year 4 making a visit to Victoria Park to carry out some Science in the local environment. Observing and understanding the natural environment around us is an important skill for children to develop, as such this is their second visit to the park to make observations on plants, trees and flowers and to recognise how they appear at different times of the year. Recycling Request— Mrs. Kelly and the Eco Warriors would like your help with battery recycling. We have a special box in school, which is outside Mrs. Spokes’ classroom for collecting any old batteries, no matter how big or small. If you have any batteries at home that no longer work, from clocks, watches, games, TV remotes or even mobile phones then please bring them into school for recycling.
