Ashton Highlights Newsletter 5
Friday 24th October 2014
Dear Parents/Carers The first half term is drawing to a close and yet it feels like only yesterday that we were welcoming students back after the summer break. It has been a great half term and a fabulous start to the school year. Staff and students seems to have packed more than ever into their study programmes and have succeeded in rising to numerous challenges. Our year 7 settling in evening was well attended and I am pleased to say ‘well done’ to the newest and youngest members of our school family for the way they have adapted to life at Ashton and embraced all that school has to offer. Our year 11 “Fully Loaded” evening was also a great success, with top tips and tricks for supporting year 11 students in their studies as they embark on the final leg of their GCSE examination journey. The feedback we received after these events from those who attended was incredibly positive and we are grateful for that; we also received some good pointers on how we can improve it even further for future years, so rest assured that it will be even bigger and better next year. Most definitely a date for the diary if your child is a student currently in year 10! Staying with the theme of preparing for future success, we held a “Challenge Day” on Monday, which you can read about on page 2. Suffice to say that many of our students rose to the challenges placed before them and found the taste of success to be a sweet one. We welcomed St John’s Ambulance into year 9 assembly on Wednesday, to launch our new SJA Cadet corps which will start November 12th and take place every Wednesday. Year 9 students seemed really keen to take part and places are limited so I would urge students to see Miss Dwyer or Mr Wiggins as soon as possible if they wish to enrol. Next half term marks the countdown to Christmas and in preparation for that we have launched our annual Christmas Card Design competition. Further details can be found on page 7. As always, if you have any items for the newsletter, please get in touch and remember to follow us on Twitter for up to the minute news as it happens.
