Ashton Highlights Newsletter 1

Friday 26 September 2014

Dear Parents/ Carers I am delighted to welcome you to our first weekly newsletter. I would like to extend a very warm welcome to the families of our new year 7 and year 12 students, and to families whose children have joined us for the first time this year into other year groups. I look forward to building positive working relationships with you and meeting you at our many school events over the forthcoming months. We have had a great start to the new school year, with our students returning from the summer break looking smart and ready for the challenges that lie ahead. I am particularly pleased to welcome year 7 and 12 students, who are the newest members of our school family. I am confident you will enjoy your time here at Ashton and very quickly see why we were the right choice for you! Many of our new year 7’s enjoyed coming to the summer school, which ran for the first 2 weeks of the school holiday. You will be able to see some of the things they got up to on page 2 of this newsletter. This summer we celebrated success in both GCSE and Post 16 courses. 52% of our year 11 students achieved at least 5 A*-C grades including English and Maths, 93% achieved 5 A*-C grades and 100% achieved at least 1 GCSE qualification. Our Post 16 students achieved 100% pass rates in their courses and have gone off to further study at University or to employment. We wish them all well. It goes without saying that we are proud of them; these results reflect the dedication and determination that staff, students and their families have shown towards achieving the best possible outcomes in every aspect of school life. We have a busy time ahead of us this term and we are determined to share with you the successes that we achieve along the way. I hope you come to look forward to our weekly newsletter, which will come to you via email every Friday, and you can also follow us on Twitter, @ashtoncsc, if you wish to see our news unfolding as it happens. As always, your support is appreciated as we strive to keep Ashton “A school to be proud of”. If you wish to discuss any issues or share a good news story, please do not hesitate to contact me either by ringing the school or by email. Best wishes, Sharon Asquith, Principal
