Our pupils in the Penguins class were given a taste of life in the legions when a Roman soldier arrived to bring history to life last Friday. As well as telling the youngsters how the Roman army was organised and how legionaries fought, Optio Ferronius Vegitus, from Wrexham-based Roman Tours explained what life was like in the towns of 2000 years ago. Under the watchful eye of Optio (Lance Prince) pupils were drilled in Latin to form a defensive shield wall while classmates ‘attacked’ them with spongy polystyrene ‘spears’ “The children were absolutely fascinated,” said Mrs Pickett. “As well as hearing what Optio had to say, they were given the opportunity to try on some armour, handle artefacts and learn the battle skills of a legionary.”

Stranger Danger!!! We have been asked by our Community Police Officers to remind parents to talk to their children about keeping themselves safe. In school we discuss stranger danger with the children on a regular basis and as the dark evenings draw in this becomes particularly important. The Daybreak Breakfast Show on ITV have produced a pack on stranger danger which parents can view at www.itv.com. Given out with this newsletter is a copy of top tips to share with you child.
