Ladybridge Primary School Sport Funding Summary Report April 2014 2013 - 2014 “Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.” (Ofsted , Jan 2014) As part of reporting on how we spend (and/or will spend) the new primary school sport funding, we will consider the impact on pupils’ lifestyles and physical wellbeing, by taking account of the following factors: • • • • • • •

the increase in participation rates in such activities as games, dance, gymnastics, swimming and athletics the increase and success in competitive school sports how much more inclusive the physical education curriculum has become the growth in the range of traditional and alternative sporting activities the improvement in partnership work on physical education with other schools and other local partners links with other subjects that contribute to pupils’ overall achievement and their greater social, spiritual, moral and cultural skills the greater awareness amongst pupils about the dangers of obesity, smoking and other such activities that undermine pupils’ health.

As part of the PE curriculum, all pupils receive at least an hour of PE every week, which includes games, gymnastics, athletics and dance (and swimming for Y5). In addition to PE lessons, school provides a range of sport-based extra-curricular clubs and activities, including football, dance, netball, cross-country, rackets and gymnastics. Throughout the whole curriculum, pupils learn about the many aspects of health and wellbeing, enabling them to make positive choices and lead healthy lifestyles. We employ ‘Premier Sport’- specialist sports coaches who work alongside teachers in weekly PE sessions. Over the year, each class, from Reception to Y6, will receive at least 10 hours of specialist sports coaching time.

Teachers’ have increased their subject knowledge and confidence in delivering high quality PE lessons. This in turn is resulting in higher levels of engagement and participation by pupils. Increased opportunity for teachers to observe pupils’ levels of engagement, participation and development, and address these as appropriate. This helps maintain high engagement in PE.
