Headteacher – Mrs A Gray 2013 - Y6 Residential Trip Will your child be in Y6 this September? There is a chance for them to go on a 3 day residential outward bound trip to Todmorden. All the information has been sent out recently. If you wish your child to attend the trip please contact the school office and express an interest by Thursday 9th May. Unfortunately as there have only been a few children signed up to this so far it may have to be cancelled if we don’t get any more interest. It would be very useful if the school is told either way. Thank you.

Helping your child if they make a mistake in their reading. Here are some ideas to help...  Don’t immediately interrupt.  If the word they used makes sense, this indicates that the child understands the story.  You may like to return to one or two mistakes like these later. In the meantime, let the child continue.  If the word makes no sense at all, wait. Stop at the end of the sentence and invite them to try again. Ask, “Would you like to look at that sentence and try again?” or, “What word would fit there and make sense?” Alternatively, ask one or two questions focusing on the meaning of the story.  Praise any attempts which focus on meaning.  If there is still no appropriate response, tell them the word and get on with the story.

Chess Report Last night Bishop Martin played St Thomas the Martyr in a chess match. Although we lost the match, the level of progress in all pupils was clear!! Special mention for Caitlin (Y4) whose game lasted well over ½ an hour! Great concentration skills! Attendance figures for week ending 26th April 2013. Congratulations to the Squirrels on achieving 99.3% 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th 7th
