We would like to remind parents/guardians of the importance of wearing appropriate uniform and footwear to school. It is important that pupils come to school in uniform and with appropriate footwear (black shoes for uniform, black pumps/black trainers for indoor/outdoor PE) that is clearly labelled with their name inside. It is also essential that your child has an appropriate PE kit in school for the days when their class is doing PE. PE is a statutory part of the National Curriculum (just like English and Maths). There have been occasions in some classes this term when up to 13 pupils have not had any PE kit to wear. In future, parents/guardians will receive written notice if their child persistently misses PE. A timetable has been included below for all classes that show who is doing PE on which day. We do have existing stock of both school uniform and school PE kit available for purchase at the school office. This stock will be sold at current prices. From February 1st however, any new uniform stock bought by the school will be sold at a slightly higher price (this is due to increase in wholesale prices at Local Authority level and NOT a decision taken by the school). School uniform and PE kit represents superb value for money compared to pupils wearing branded/labelled/football kits which are far more expensive to replace. PE timetable: Reception (Chicks):
Friday (after half-term this will change to Monday) Year 1 (Otters): Tuesday and Wednesday Year 2 (Squirrels): Monday and Thursday Year 3 (Penguins): Monday and Tuesday Year 3/4 (Bears): Mondays and Tuesdays Year 4/5 (Tigers): Tuesday Year 6 (Lions): Thursday and Friday Please note that Year 4 and 5 pupils also need swimming kit on a Wednesday. Some of these sessions are delivered outside where possible by professional sports coaches. It is therefore important that your child has appropriate outdoor clothing to keep warm (tracksuit pants, fleece etc.). The school does advise that it is best to bring PE kit (clearly labelled with the pupils' name inside) in on Monday, leave in school for the week and then take home on Friday to be washed.
Please try to support your child with any homework tasks that are sent home each week. It is important that we work together to help your child to 'Reach for the stars!’ “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.” ― Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut! Try to read with your child for a short time on a daily basis. Reading books and reading diaries should be brought into school every day.
SUMDOG As of today, all the schools in Lancashire have been invited to take part in a week long Maths Challenge using an educational website: www.sumdog.com. The children have been working on the site in class this week, but home access is also available. Your child has their own personal username and password to access from home. If you are not sure what this is, please see your child's teacher.
