Stalmine Primary School Charging and Remissions Policy Stalmine School believe that all children should receive equal benefit from activities provided outside the normal curriculum, irrespective of economic background. However, as most of these activities incur extra funding for which the school is unable to pay, parents will be asked to make a donation for each individual child. In order that no child is disadvantaged, help is available for families who genuinely are unable to contribute. Charges will normally be made for the following activities:a) Individual tuition in the playing of a musical instrument. b) Board and lodging on residential visits. Parents are advised of any such costs in a letter, and are encouraged to speak, confidentially, to the Headteacher if there is economic hardship precluding a child from partaking of the activity. In such a case, Friends of Stalmine School committee may be asked to subsidise the activity for the necessary amount. In the case of educational day visits, parents will be asked for a donation of the proportionate cost for an individual child of school trips to meet the costs for: i) travel ii) entrance fees iii) insurance costs In the event of insufficient donations to make the activity economically viable, the trip will be cancelled. Activities without charge There will be no charge for the following activities: education provided wholly or mostly during school hours. This includes the supply of any materials, books, instruments, other equipment and also transport provided in school hours to carry pupils between the school and an activity; education provided outside school hours if it is part of the National Curriculum; entry for prescribed tests or examinations that a pupil has been prepared for by the school.
