UNIVERSITY OF ALBERTA SCHOOL OF DENTISTRY BOYLE MCCAULEY HEALTH CENTRE DENTAL CLINIC EXPANSION PROJECT The Boyle McCauley Health Centre (BMHC) Dental Clinic was established in 1992 to provide much needed access to dental services for those facing barriers to access to care. Since this time, the population demands on the Dental Clinic have increased significantly rendering the current clinic capacity in need of an expansion. As such, a partnership was formed among BMHC, Alberta Health Services, the Metis Nation of Alberta and the University of Alberta, School of Dentistry to build a new dental clinic. The expansion will allow for increased services from dental and dental hygiene students and resident dentists. The new clinic will be located in the Metis Capital Housing Corporation Renaissance Tower and is expected to open in June 2018.

In the spring of 2015, a young woman came to the BMHC Dental Clinic with a tooth ache. Her long time addiction had caused major dental damage. She was seen the same day, as an emergency “fit in. The dental receptionist learned that the young woman had been seeing an addiction counselor and was working to stay clean and straight. For six months she had been doing well but was unable to find a job. She thought it was likely due to her severely damaged teeth. The receptionist scheduled appointments to fix her teeth and over the next few weeks the young woman became a new person! Comprehensive dental care had given her the confidence to apply for work. She was eventually successful in obtaining employment and is on the way to financial independence. This young woman continues to come in for regular dental care and will soon have benefits at work to pay for a portion of the dental services she receives. PATIENT TESTIMONIAL
