About SSE Australia SSE Australia runs learning programs across Australia for people from all backgrounds that have an idea or business with a community benefit. Our vision is a community powering positive changemakers for a more inclusive and sustainable world.

Unlike a traditional school, SSE Australia is non–academic and based on a ‘learning by doing’ approach. Students gain practical business and life skills that they can apply directly to their ventures. Our students range in age from 20 to 65 and have diverse backgrounds and ventures. This diversity enables a rich cross–fertilisation of ideas, the creation of collaborative projects and high levels of peer–learning. SSE Australia is based on the highly successful SSE UK founded in 1997 by serial social entrepreneur Michael Young, with a global network of over 1,200 Fellows, including 250 in Australia.

Want to use your professional skills to support budding social entrepreneurs? The School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE) Australia’s Talent Pool provides an exciting opportunity for business professionals to either mentor or act as experts to support the development of Australia’s emerging social entrepreneurs and their social ventures. If you have skills in areas such as financial management, legal structures, governance, marketing and IT and/ or are familiar with start ups and community based organisations, the

SSE Talent Pool can connect you with social entrepreneurs that need support in your area of expertise. The SSE Talent Pool also seeks mentors to act as sounding boards and provide one–on–one support and encouragement to help our network of social entrepreneurs navigate the challenges of starting new enterprises. Our experts and mentors will in turn be stretched and grow as professionals as they work side–by–side with social entrepreneurs who are passionate, committed and trailblazing innovative solutions to challenges in their communities.

An Invitation to Potential Talent Pool Members How do I join the Talent Pool? To get started, please complete an Expression of Interest Form on our website (this includes submitting a brief biography) and we will be in touch to schedule an interview to discuss and evaluate the best fit for your skills, experience and availability. Please note, that while we will endeavour to find suitable matches for our Talent Pool members, not all will be instantly matched as it depends on the timing of our programs and on the particular skills/support our social entrepreneurs are seeking. How does it work? Based on the initial interview with an SSE Australia staff member, and a potential pipeline of students requiring your support, you will either be offered a role in an upcoming program as a mentor, expert or both.

Mentors are invited to attend a mentor matching and induction session where you will be matched with a social entrepreneur on either a 4 or 9–month program and are required to support them as part of their learning journey with a minimum of 4 x 1.5 hours of one–on–one support, over the course of the program. Our mentors often get involved in the early stage set up of their mentee’s social venture, making it an exciting opportunity to contribute to the foundations for future growth, impact and sustainability. In turn, mentors also provide invaluable personal support at each phase of venture development. Experts are invited to join an expert panel or a 2–hour workshop on a particular subject (eg, legal structures, governance, marketing/ communications, social media, business planning etc) as well as some
