Such is the prominence and broad expertise of SSE Contracting within the UK industry that the company has been involved in many high profile projects across the country. One such example of this is the contracting division’s short notice management of the Westfield shopping centre group’s £1.2 billion development in London. Spanning five years, the project called upon SSE to replace another contractor at short notice and demanded an 8000 strong workforce spread over a project the size of 30 football pitches. The company was able to call upon its utilities service to provide 15km of cabling to deliver 11kV across 24 sub-stations plus a local gas network in around 12 months. On top of this SSE was able to deliver a fibre network, HV infrastructure, civil works all within safety, legal and compliance constraints. Ultimately, it was able to complete the work on schedule, on budget and with zero safety incidents, thus exemplifying the level of professionalism and competence it is able to offer to any sector.
