March 1 ST. CLAIRSVILLE – Belmont County Safety Council Luncheon – “Crash Causing Violations” will be the topic as guest speaker Lt. James M. Faunda, Post Commander, Ohio State Highway Patrol provide insight from his 25 year career.

The food will be catered by Ye Olde Alpha and will feature pulled pork and chicken on sliders with veggies and rice. The luncheon is at the St. Clairsville Recreation Center from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $15 for Chamber member and $20 for walkins. Mountaineers Celebrate Music in W.Va.

NEW CUMBERLAND, WV – Nestled among the rolling hills atop West Virginia’s northern panhandle is a gem of a music and arts festival. Under the motto - Montani Semper Liberi, “Mountaineers are always free,” this three day celebration of music, the arts and cultural heritage, will return to the Oak Glen complex (just outside of New Cumberland, WV), March 9-11, for the fourth consecutive year.

Once again, the event will feature a roster comprised of nationally and internationally renowned Roots and Americana touring artists, as well as a number of local and regional acts. There are sixteen Main Stage and Little Theatre performances slated for this weekend festival spread out over four sessions during the three days.

To promote the family friendly intentions of the annual festival, all children will now be admitted free to the Main Stage performances. Those age 12 and under, however, must be accompanied by an adult.

In addition to the headlining acts, there will be a large Commons Area showcasing area crafters, vendors and artisans, plus a Hall Visual Arts Gallery displaying the works of regional artists and photographers, along with an alternate stage, The Porch, with a full and diverse roster of entertainment. Admission to all Commons Area, Hall Gallery, and Porch activities, events and displays will be free to all ages.

Headliners at this year’s Main Stage concerts include many top acts the Hackensaw Boys. “Before string bands were a thing in popular culture...before The Avett Brothers...before Mumford & Sons...the Hackensaw Boys were mixing bluegrass and old time music with a punk attitude, and reshaping what a modern old school string band could sound like,” according to Saving Country Music.

The War and Treaty plays an emotionally charged blend of roots music, bluegrass, folk, gospel and soul. Rolling Stone magazine rated them among the very best at AmericanaFest 2017.

Cedric Burnside Project is the grandson of Mississippi Hill Country blues legend R.L. Burnside, he is the fourtime recipient of the Blues Music Award’s “Drummer of the Year,” and widely regarded as one of the world’s great drummers, also an accomplished acoustic blues guitarist.

Hillbilly Gypsies were twice honored as West Virginia’s Band of the Year. They perform their high-energy live shows, “old fashioned style,” playing around a single vintage ribbon microphone.

Molly Tuttle was recently recognized as the International Bluegrass Music Association “Guitar Player of the Year,” the first female to achieve that honor. The 24-year old California native is known for her flatpicking, claw-hammer and cross-picking guitar prowess.

Possessed by Paul James (Konnor Wert) has been called a “one man folk wonder” by the New York Times and listed among their top-10 live shows.

In 2016, Dori Freeman was proclaimed by Rolling Stone magazine as “a strong contender for Americana debut of the year,” and the New York Times credited her first release as one of that year’s best albums. At only 26, Freeman continues to stay true to her Appalachian roots.

The Early Mays are a major folk act with their Appalachian-inspired songs over lush accompaniment.

“What a beautiful, beautiful harmony sound...,” says Larry Groce, of NPR’s Mountain Stage.

March 28 BELLAIRE – Great Stone Viaduct Lecture Series - The Great Stone Viaduct Historical Education Society partnered provides the public with presentations of local historical topics. This event will take place in the Community Room at the Bellaire Public Library at 6 p.m., and will include the following the speaker: George T. Sidiropolis, a long time resident of Wheeling, who will discuss “Murder Never Dies: Crime and Corruption in the Friendly City.”

March 28 WINTERSVILLE – Youth Ministry – The Crossroads Youth Group is for students in grades 6th-12th. Youth group is designed as a safe environment that challenges students to grow in their faith in practical ways, encourages them to reach out to their friends, and form friendships within the group that go beyond the walls of the church. It’s a time for games, prayer, worship, and an interactive bible study and a biblical message followed by small groups. Event is 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Crossroad Christian Church, 110 Springdale Avenue, Wintersville.

March 29 MARTINS FERRY – Babytime - Designed for children ages 6 months through 2 years-old and their caregivers, Babytime is a lively, positive 45-minute program that provides a gently structured library experience. Caregivers and their babies respond together to books, songs, nursery rhymes, finger plays and learning games. Babytime is held at the Martins Ferry Public Library, 20 James Wright Place. March 29 STEUBENVILLE – Play and Learn the Alphabet – Play and Learn the Alphabet is an hour of playtime that incorporates letter-learning for parents/caregiver and their children ages 2-6 at the Schiappa Branch Library at 10:30 a.m., and again at 6 p.m. iPads that are preloaded with educational apps are available afterward for children and parents to use together. Registration is not required.

March 29 BELLAIRE – Pasta Dinner – Buon Appetito! The Sons of Italy host a pasta dinner at the Bellaire Lodge #754, 3348 Belmont Street, Bellaire, from 4-7 p.m. Cost of $8 includes pasta with free refills, sausage or meatball, bread, salad, and ice tea, lemonade, coffee or water.

March 29 WEIRTON – Youth Lock-In – The Mercy Baptist Church, 3474 Pennsylvania Ave., Weirton, is hosting an all-night youth lock-in entitled, “The Day Christ Died.” The event is for youth grade 6th to 12th and begins at 5 p.m. on the 29th and ends at 9 a.m. on the 30th.

March 30 WHEELING – Toddler Time - Toddler Time is based on the award-winning program “Mother Goose on the Loose” and incorporates songs, nursery rhymes, stories, finger plays, bells, scarves and puppets to engage children birth-two. The program lasts approximately 30 minutes and is held at the Ohio County Public Library, 52 16th Street, Wheeling, at 10:30 a.m.

March 30 BETHESDA – Storytime - Parents and caretakers of children two to five years old are invited to attend Storytime. This promotes the improvement of important literacy skills through activities like talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing, Each Storytime session will last between 30-minutes and 1-hour and will feature a story, singing, arts and crafts, and some simple activities designed to give children the opportunities they need to be ready to read.
