Visitors share memories of Dellroy Elementary By NANCY SCHAAR FPS Correspondent

On Thursday, May 23, the final school bell will sound dismissal for Carroll County students that attend Dellroy Elementary School. The new grade 6 to 12 campus will be finished soon and the school district will move forward with the task of moving all of the elementary desks, chairs, books, programs and other classroom items to the former Carrollton High School building on Third Street in Carrollton. An open house was held Saturday, May 4, so former students and teachers could view the old building one more time. The discussions in classrooms and hallways were lively and there were so many smiles and laughs as old times were remembered once more. Memories were put in gear trying to remember when students moved from the old Dellroy school that sat on the hill across the road beside the park, and what was the date it was torn down. Others questioned when the addition was put on the back of Dellroy Elementary. Lynn Fox attended Dellroy in 1948. “There were 19 in our class. There

Investigation continues into Minard’s death

Bob Sanford and Norma Elifritz both revealed some funny incidents that occured when they attended school at Dellroy.

The death of 14-year-old Jonathan Minard is still an active investigation, says Carroll County Sheriff Dale R. Williams. In a Facebook statement last week, Williams took issue with the numerous rumors being spread on social media. “In reference to the investigation regarding Jonathan Minard, it has come to the attention of the Sheriff’s Office that many individuals are voicing their opinions and assumptions across social media on the ‘who’s, what’s and when’s of the case’,” Williams stated. “Let me be very clear, Jonathan’s parents had no involvement with this tragic outcome. Making assumptions and essentially starting rumors about individuals not only affects a person’s

life and emotions, but can also have severe impacts on this investigation.,” he continued. “I understand that the public is frustrated with waiting for answers, but in order to complete it properly we must take this necessary time to get every single answer that is needed. I assure you that this investigation is still ongoing and very active. Please know that those working on this case are the only individuals that know the actual facts, and when it is complete, the facts will then be released to the public,” he stated. Minard was found buried in a shallow grave on a Washington Township farm on April 20, after being reported missing April 13.

Carroll Electric customers will experience brief outages Area residents will experience brief power outages later this month as Carroll Electric Cooperative will backfeed its Washington substation. The outages will occur while First Energy, CEC’s transmission provider, performs switch maintenance to the transmission lines coming into CEC’s substation. The Washington Substation serves approximately 1,345 members in portions of Washington, Fox, Augusta, East, Brown, Harrison, Center and Lee Townships in Carroll County and part of Springfield Township in Jefferson County.

Outages will occur: Tuesday, May 28 at approximately 2 p.m. Friday, May 31 at approximately 8:30 a.m. Members should expect each outage to last approximately 15 to 20 minutes, as Carroll Electric crews safely transfer power to and from another substation. CEC apologizes for the inconvenience and thanks customers for their patience and understanding during these momentary outages. Anyone with questions may call 1-800-232-7697.
