CADIZ – Power plant talk has been ongoing for at least a year now and finally some public evidence that the plant is coming to fruition surfaced at Wednesday’s Harrison County Commissioner’s meeting. Past resolutions by the village of Cadiz and Ohio’s director of development, have deemed the entire county as an Enterprise Zone for the purpose of “incentives for business will enhance efforts to promote the variable and diverse economic activity necessary for

rejuvenation of the Enterprise Zone.” Commissioner Dale Norris read Resolution: 13-18 while noting the Enterprise Zone Act, which “authorizes counties, with the consent of any affected municipal corporations or townships, to execute agreements with certain enterprises for the purposes of establishing, expanding, renovating or occupying facilities and hiring new employees and/or preserving jobs within the Enterprise Zone in exchange for specified local tax incentives…” e last part dealing with tax incentives is significant because the agreement allows Harrison Power LLC

a 100 percent tax exemption for 15 years, though this is not unique with communities bringing in business from outside their area. Carroll County Commissioner Jeff Ohler, who was in the same position during negotiations with Advanced Power, eventually built in his county with the same 15-year abatement deal. Ohler said he’d checked other counties and deals they made and found the same abatement deal with everyone of them. He said he struggled with it for a while but the one big windfall is they will get a new school out of the deal as

the board receives a $1.4 million check from the plant each year, which is to continue for an additional 15 years as well. Also, included in the deal was a check to Washington Township for $2 million, according to Ohler. “Even though we have an abatement in place, the abatement is a lot easier to swallow knowing that there’s a payment in lieu of taxes for $1.4 million to the school every year,” Ohler explained. He said there are some good paying jobs with some locals employed there, it’s not an enormous amount, stating

HOPEDALE – Some may think there are plenty of flowers, or florists to go around but actually there are not, at least Josh Richards doesn’t think so. He, along with his partner, Melissa Murrey, are hoping they can fill that void. Richards has carved out a little patch of his own in Hopedale and it’s not much but he’s already had orders and pushed to overtime and he’s barely been up and running quicker than he thought.

Richards has partnered with Teleflora, a national organization and is enthusiastic about his prospects of flourishing in the business. Richards started out helping with a Hopedale florist company. Richards said he bought the small wooden building that sits off Mill Street behind the homes along the road near Woods Food Center, from a Wintersville company. Richards said they offer anything a customer wants, including plaques and teddy bears along with the usual arrangements. “I’m the craftier one,” Murrey said laughing. ey come off as good partners, fun loving and ready for the hard work, which included getting

CADIZ – A community service project is scheduled to be held at Harrison Central High School on May 11 on the front lawn of the school, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. All donations will need to be brought in to the office of the high school by May 8. “I planned this community service project for my public speaking final, where we had to create an original idea or project. I did this project to help benefit our community and for the kids in my school,” thanks again, said Alex Barcroft student at Harrison Central. e project is called the Husky Hand-MeDowns! the place cleaned up and ready. “It’s just nice to be able to service the community, it’s rewarding,” Richards said. He said he looked for weeks until settling on the current site, which he said the price of real estate just about doubles “eight feet out.” He said he’s done 38 orders just via Facebook alone and hasn’t even been up and running that long. “It was insane, I wasn’t expecting it to blow up,” Richards said. Richards and Murrey are planning an April 23 Monday open house from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. e website is also up and can be seen at: www.hopedaleflowerco.com, or call: (740) 792-8150.
