The “Chicks”

Hi! My name is Kathryn Harty and this is my first year as a Junior 4-H member. I have been working hard on a chicken project and I have five chickens! My sister Georgia has another five, so there are ten all together. It is not much, but its ok! I think that having chickens is so much fun. We got all of our chickens as very small chicks and we have raised them to be adults. The funny part is that they chase my DAD when he goes to feed and water them. He’s the only one that gets chased around the pen!

I have two meat birds and 3 laying hens. One of the laying hens is a white silky and 2 are cochins. I will be selling my meat birds at our June 10th sale. They are already very big so they are going to be very fat and tasty by then, sure to make someone a very wonderful meal! I look forward to seeing you all at the sale and hope that you will consider buying my birds for your family!

Thank you very much!

Georgia Harty

The “Chick Squad”

Hi, my name is Georgia Harty and this is my second year as a junior with the Bellis 4-H Beef Club. This year I also have a chicken project. I have two meat chickens, three cochins, and one silky. One of the little cochins I have is a little mini chick and I think it is a female. Her name is Mini Mouse. My two meat chickens are Larry and Barry. Then my two other cochins are Timbit and Butterball. Last, but not least is my silky and it has a big, fluffy head. I still don’t know its name yet.

I will be selling my two meat birds during the 4-H sale on June 10th. I promise that if you buy my meat chickens that they will make a very tasty dinner. I have been taught all the knowledge from my younger sister Kathryn Harty for my chickens!

Thank you for coming out to our sale and supporting our club!

KYLE CHERNIWCHAN

Hi, I’m Kyle Cherniwchan and this is my other 4-H project this year. This year I got my own chicken coop and am responsible for all the care and feeding of my chickens. I have 7 meat birds. They are called Cornish Giants. I can’t believe how FAST they grow!!!

Every day they look a little bigger! They are on a grower ration now and should be ready to show on Achievement day. I’ve learned a lot about poultry this year!

IF you are interested in a great homegrown chicken, come down to the achievement day on June 10th to have a look and bid on the birds!

GINNY DMETRUIK

My name is Ginny, and this is my second year participating in Chicken 4H. Last year I raised a Cornish Giant meat bird. This year I am raising the same breed and it is going very well. We got 6 day-old chicks and I’ve raised them since. I didn’t have any losses this year, and they are all growing great! My chickens are very food motivated and every time I go to feed or water them (which is twice a day) they try to peck me and think I am food. Last year I won Grand Champion in the meat bird division during our 4H Show and Sale achievement day. I am very proud of myself for that and I am working very hard to have a successful show day again with my chicken this year. I look forward to seeing all my friends and family, and supporters of 4H on achievement day on June 10. Thank you for supporting me!

SADIE PODLOSKI

Hi, my name is Sadie Podloski. I’m 10 years old and this is my first year in 4-H. I live on a farm south of Vilna, AB.

I have a poultry project this year as well as a heifer. I will be selling my Cornish Giant meat birds at the Achievement Day on June 10th.

Come on down and have a look at some great birds!

TANNER CHERNIWCHAN

Hi, I’m Tanner Cherniwchan and I have 4 chickens- Thor, Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, and Peter Parker

This is my 2nd year with our club and my 2nd year with a poultry project. This year I’m raising broiler meat birds.

Thor, Tony, Bruce and Peter are growing nicely and will be ready to go on our achievement day June 10 in Waskatenau.

Hope to see you there!

COLTON LAMONTAGE

Hello fellow 4H members and community members this year 4-H poultry project I decided to do a turkey. This has been a big learning curve for me as I have only raised chickens for the last 6 yrs.

The turkey has been growing fast and has a interest call when it is trying to talk to you. They are very bold animals.

Come on out and check my turkey out on June 10, 2024 at the achievement day sale at Waskatenau!

My name is Kyle Cherniwchan! I’m 12yrs old and this is my 3rd year in the Bellis 4-H Beef Club.

My steer Joey is an Angus/ Simmental X. Joey has been a good steer to work with. I enjoy combing and grooming him, and he leads pretty well.

Joey weighed 651 lbs at weigh in. He gets fed a mix of silage, barley and hay that we grow ourselves on our farm.

If you are interested in purchasing a wonderful steer, please come to our Achievement Day Show and Sale at Waskatenau Monday, June 10th .

Thanks for supporting 4-H!

My name is Ginny Dmetruik. I’m 11 years old and this is my 3rd year in 4H. I am a junior member. I’ve had an amazing year in 4H and learned so much especially about feed.

My steer is a Simmental X and his name is ‘Red Rock’. He is a nice calm steer who loves his ration. Red Rock sure gets crazy at feeding time, and loves to be scratched!

I can’t wait to show him at our achievement day, as well as show my meat-bird project.

My name is Lilly Feniak and I’m 10 years old. This is my second year in 4H (first year as a Jr. Member).

My steer Lloyd is a Angus/Charolais cross and I knew I would choose him the day he was born. He went from 90 pounds at birth to 781 pounds on weigh in day and is fed all homegrown grain and hay. Lloyd loves being brushed and fed and spending time with me, just as much as I like spending time with him and his buddies.

If you’d like to see Lloyd and all my fellow members and their projects, please join us on June 10 for Achievement Day at Victoria Trail Ag Society Arena in Waskatenau.

Lilly and Lloyd

Emma Jarema & Bob

My name is Emma Jarema, and I am 10 years old. This is my first year in the Bellis 4-H Beef Club.

My steer’s name is Bob, and he is a Maine Anjou Simmental cross. Bob’s been a good steer to have as my first 4-H animal and I have learned a lot from him. I enjoy grooming him and walking him. Bob likes licking the sleeve of my arm and eating my glove. Bob weighed 632lbs at weigh in. We started feeding him silage, hay and oats then changed from oats to barley to finish him off.

Colton Lamontagne & BlackJack 2023-2024

4-H Jr Member Beef Project

Hello fellow 4H member and members of the community. My name is Colton Lamontagne this is my 3rd year of 4-H and as a junior member.

This year’s beef project is a Black Angus/ Simmental X. He was born in the spring of 2023. This year is my first year with out my steer being a bottle calf.

Blackjack likes his scratches, but it gets easily spooked I’m hoping he will be easy to handle and calmer by sale day. He is growing steadily and filling out nicely.

Austin Cherniwchan and Chandler

Hi my name is Austin Cherniwchan. I am 13 years old and live on a farm by Stry. This is my third year in 4-H. Aside from working with my steer, I like to play volleyball, basketball, badminton, as well as enjoy water sports like surfing, skiing, and wakeboarding. Most summer days, you can catch me driving around on my quad.

My market steer is a Simmental cross named Chandler. He loves getting scratches on his back. I feed him a ration of rolled barley, silage, hay, and supplement. On weigh-in day, he weighed 804 pounds. He has come a very long way. He was super stubborn at the start but with some encouragement he now walks with a little push. I hope you can make it to our show and sale to come and meet us!

Reed Cherniwchan and Joey

My name is Reed Cherniwchan. I am 16 years old and this is my fourth year in 4-H. My steer’s name is Joey. I live 10 minutes out of Vilna near Stry. I have a great life on the farm and spend a lot of time working with my steer. He is a Red Angus/Simmental cross. He had a starting weight of 686 lbs on weigh-in day and he has gained a lot of weight since then. He is finishing nicely and is getting better at leading.

I’ve had older cousins in 4-H for as long as I could remember and my dad has always taken my younger brother and I to their Achievement Day. It was always a fun filled event watching them. This was one of the main reasons I wanted to join 4-H and encourages me to come back year after year. This year, I was on my school volleyball, cross country running and track teams. I also enjoy other activities such as Ukrainian dancing and playing the violin. I have pretty good grades in this first year of high school and am looking forward to post-secondary in a couple of years.

I am looking forward to my fourth Achievement Day and hope to see you there!

Emelia Edwardson & “Marvin”

My Name is Emelia Edwardson this is my first year in 4H as an Intermediate member. I have enjoyed my year learning lots from Roman and Kamiko Dmetruik and from my sister. My steer is a Red Simmental X. He has been thoroughly enjoying his rations of Oats and Barley along with his hay. He has started putting on weight and is starting to look like a great steer to add to your freezers! I look forward to meeting everyone at the Achievement show and sale.

Aleria Edwardson & “Scully”

Hello, my name is Aleria Edwardson. This is my third year in 4H as an Intermediate member. Scully is a Black Angus Steer. He is a gentle giant. He likes to be scratched and doesn’t mind his face being touched. Scully is enjoying his rations of barley, oats and hay. Scully loves life his life with all of his buddies in the steer pen! Thank you to Roman and Kamiko Dmetruik for all that you do to help me with my project. I look forward to seeing you at the Achievement show and sale.

Tanner Cherniwchan & Ross

Hello, my name is Tanner Cherniwchan I’m 12 years old and this is my 2nd year in 4H. My calf, Ross, is a Red Angus Simmental cross steer. Ross has been one of the more tame steers this year, but he is a little bit stubborn to move.

Ross weighed 676lbs on weigh-in day which was in October. He gets fed a mixture of silage, hay, barley and supplement. That is what my uncle grows on his farm where Ross hangs out with my cousins steers. If you consider buying one of our great steers come to our Show and Sale on June 10 at the Waskatenau Arena. Thank you for supporting Bellis 4H Beef Club.

This year my steer “Todd” is a Charolais X.

Thank goodness he is a quiet steer!!

Todd started off weighing 629lbs. He gets fed twice a day, a ration of home-grown silage, hay and barley. He is very well care for, with lots of space to move and grow.

If you’ re looking for great beef come down and see my steer at our Achievement Day Show and Sale Monday, June 10th at Waskatenau Arena!

Thanks for supporting Local!

Hello! I’m Nathan Cherniwchan

This is my 10th and last year in 4H. I hold the position of club treasurer.

I live on a farm south of Vilna, and I enjoy boating, golfing, and farming.

Next year I will be attending School at Vermilion for Crop Sciences.

Sadie and her heifer “Tux”

Hi, my name is Sadie Podloski. I’ m 10 years old and this is my first year in 4-H. I live on a farm south of Vilna, AB.

My project this year is a heifer, named Tux. I named her Tux because she is a black baldy and her markings remind me of a tuxedo. She is a Red Angus cross. Tux loves her scratches, alfalfa cubes, and green grass. I hope that she has more heifers that look like her, so that I can keep them and grow my own herd. I enjoy school,Ukrainian dance, and spending time with my family and animals. I also play the guitar. Next year I hope to do a cow calf pair with my heifer Tux. Ina few yearsI hope to be the president of the Bellis 4-H Beef

Georgia Harty & Lola

Hi, my name is Georgia Harty. I am in my second year with the Bellis 4-H Beef Club. This year I have a heifer project, as well as a chicken project with laying hens and meat birds. My heifer project’s name is Lola. I think that she has been very awesome this year and might be the best animal I have had yet! She is a very unique heifer. She is an Angus cross and is all black except for 2 white dots on her head. My Mom picked Lola out of our ranch herd and said that she chose her because she is very quiet. She also loves to lick people! She has always been very quiet and easy to catch. I am not selling Lola, but I plan to keep her for my own herd. We are still working on having her lead better, but I’m sure she can improve in the next coming month. Soon we will be showing our animals, so I will see you at the show. I can’t wait to compete against all of the other 4-H members! I would like to thank Vilna/Smoky Lake Pharmacy and Integrated Healthcare for purchasing my 2023 steer!

Ellena Senetza & Flower

My second project is a smaller framed Shorthorn heifer named Flower. She is compact, -wide, and very sassy. She has an attitude and snorts, rears, and throws hissy fits-when she's not in the mood to have a halter on. It's too bad her tantrums are nothing I can't handle since she's so small. I hope she does well on achievement day and makes a great cow one day.

Congratulations on your Achievements!
