All of the works in the Venetian series blossom and rustle like flowering plants—organic nature, at its most flourishing, is Chihuly’s inspiration--as though composed of Venetian sea and sky. Many of the sculptures are sea blue, others sea green, the green of the sea inseparable from the green of plants. Venetian red also appears, along with orange and yellow, all suggestive of sunlight as it changes during the day. Venice is famous for its light as well as color, the light of the sky reflected in its water, giving it shimmering depth, an aura of infinite plenitude, bespeaking its grand sky.
