Jason Flesher who develops the all-inclusive immersive Discovery program on Scenic Eclipse voyages has explored the world for over 40 years and made nearly 100 voyages in the Arctic and Antarctica. His role includes finding specialists for the up to 20-member Discovery Team and planning excursions in the most remote locations.

German chef Tom Goetter oversees the up to 10 truly all-inclusive dining venues on board Scenic Eclipse, ranging from fine dining and authentic Japanese to casual dining, and revels in his freedom to introduce culinary innovations. “I want to make sure that people see cruise ships in a different way.

Guests will say: I’ve never had food like this.”

As the most innovative ship in the world, on board there are two helicopters^, a submarine and plenty of water toys such as Zodiacs, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. “We’re on the cutting edge. We’re the pioneers in polar exploration,” says Flesher.

Thanks to the discovery vehicles, guests can see destinations from new perspectives and with expert insights, allowing for stories for life to be created. But, says Flesher, what really counts is the human side, since expedition members have to have not just training but the personality that will deliver guests a great all-round experience. And what does he love most? “Experiencing everything through the guests’ eyes and experiences. That’s where the magic is.”

Among the dining venues guests can choose from is Elements main restaurant, Lumière restaurant and Champagne bar for contemporary French fine dining, and the more relaxed setting of Night Market @ Koko’s, which tempts with a

mouth-watering array of Asian and Middle Eastern Street food. Guests also enjoy the relaxed ambiance of Azure Café and Bar for a hit of barista-made coffee, light fare such as salads and pizza, and post-dinner treats such as brandy and port accompanied by biscotti and macarons.

Goetter wants to prove people wrong when they claim cruise ship restaurants aren’t as good as those on land.

“We put street food and herb gardens on a 6-star cruise ship. There’s no ship currently on the sea that offers the à la carte spectrum we do. I want to make sure we’re completely elevated from everybody else.”
