In her practice as a family law attorney, Angela Flaherty sees people at the most stressful and emotionally fraught moments. Angela works in all aspects of family law including divorce, alimony, custody and child support, paternity, and domestic violence and practices primarily in Sarasota, Bradenton and Venice. While representing her clients vigorously in court and at the appellate level if necessary, she knows the risks of battle and the high costs, financially and emotionally. Angela’s goal is to help her clients ensure all of their rights are protected and that they are prepared for litigation if it becomes necessary. Believing strongly that clients can, and should, understand the legal elements controlling their cases, Angela spends time educating them about the context in which the judge will be making decisions. She is a straight shooter who counsels clients about the benefits of maintaining a reasonable stance and realistic expectations. Divorce and other family law matters can be complex and cover multiple areas of the law, which is one reason why Angela enjoys and regularly participates in continuing education seminars to ensure she is up-to-date on the many areas of the law that can impact family law cases including the identification, valuation and distribution of marital and non-marital assets and debts; the determination of income support entitlements; and all matters pertaining to minor children. Angela is a Sarasota native and earned her undergraduate and law degrees at Florida State University. She became a member of the Florida bar in 1997 and shortly thereafter directed her area of practice to family related issues where she has been primarily focused for the last 18 years. Her husband also is a family law attorney and they have three children ranging in age from 12 to 16 to whom they direct their attention when not practicing law. Women on the SCENE 2015
