Anna Maria Nekoranec Taking time out to care for her ailing mother set Anna Maria Nekoranec on an unexpected path. Having a stellar track record internationally with large venture capital funds and private equity investing meant people sought her expertise in helping companies with financing and business improvement. As her mother’s health improved, she began working more and found herself with a consulting business she hadn’t really planned. At the same time, she fell in love with Sarasota, and her family relocated here. Anna Maria’s business focuses in three areas: consulting to high net worth individuals with private equity investments, helping small to medium sized business owners with growth strategies and financing, and investing in and buying companies. While she does not specialize in particular business sectors, Anna Maria typically only invests if she can bring something value-added to help grow and maximize value in the business. She got her start in this somewhat rarified business world when the thesis she wrote for her MBA from the Wharton School was published and became a Book of the Month Club book and a text for Wharton’s small business acquisition class. She was recruited to the Czech Republic to advise on acquisitions, and eventually returned to the U.S., rising through the ranks of several large venture capital firms. When she’s not immersed in her business, Anna Maria enjoys time with her husband, 20-year-old stepdaughter, and six-yearold twin daughters. She also lends her expertise to the Jefferson Scholars Foundation at her undergraduate alma mater the University of Virginia, helping bring the scholarships to the Tampa Bay area. She has been working with Forty Carrots Family Center as well to help future scholars get their best start in life. SCENE
