view of their 50th Anniversary celebration, KOTRA extended the sponsorship for our delegation to cover all the accommodation and domestic flight expenses. The 5-member delegation was accompanied by Irene Low, Senior Director for Commerce & Industry Development. The delegation also had the opportunity to network with 200 foreign delegates from China, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia and more than 400 Korean businessmen and visited the Korea Productivity Centre and the Korean Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The Korea Productivity Centre agreed to partner the Chamber to provide productivity training workshops on their “Korea Production System (KPS)” and its implementation.

Incoming Delegations Visit from the Chinese National Federation of Industries (Taiwan) A 13-member delegation from the Chinese National Federation of Industries (CNFI) from Taiwan visited Chamber on March 12 led by Executive Director Chin-Tsai Chen to strengthen cooperation and interaction. The meeting saw the discussion of how businesses in Taiwan and Singapore could work together and venture into Southeast Asia and emerging economies. Chamber’s President Teo Siong Seng said he hoped for future collaborations between SCCCI and CNFI to enhance international trade. Visit from the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Xiamen A delegation from the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of Xiamen, led by its Deputy Director Su Yuqun, visited the Chamber on April 10. The delegation came to strengthen relations with the Chamber as well as to promote the 16th China International Fair for Investment and Trade on September 8-12. Chairman of the Commerce & Industry Committee Lau Tai San gave an introduction of the Chamber and hoped

that the Chamber could work closely with companies in China and increase trade. Visit from the Argentina Government On April 18, the Chamber hosted a delegation from the Argentina government led by Esquire Luis Beder Herrera, Governor of the La Rioja province. The delegation consisted of Governors and government officials as well as 20 companies from the provinces of La Rioja, San Juan, Catamarca and Mendoza. The delegation introduced the business opportunities in Argentina. Chamber’s President Teo Siong Seng and senior management received the delegation. Visit from the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry On June 22, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry led a delegation to the Chamber. The delegation introduced the activities of the Vietnam Chamber and invited SCCCI to organise a business mission to Vietnam. Visit from MUSAID (Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association) A delegation from MUSAID (Independent Industrialists’ and Businessmen’s Association) visited the Chamber on July 11. The delegation promoted the investment opportunities in Turkey and the 14th MUSAID International Fair and 16th International Business Forum Congress to be held in October. Visit from the PRC Embassy in Singapore Liu Hong Mei, the newly appointed Counsellor of the PRC Embassy in Singapore, led a 4-member delegation to the Chamber on August 1. Chamber’s President Teo Siong Seng and representatives from the Chamber hosted the delegation. Counsellor Liu praised the Chamber on its impact on Chinese entrepreneurs on an international scale, promoting the interests of Singapore businesses and

actively promoting global trade among Chinese businesses. She hoped the Embassy could have a close relationship with the Chamber and cooperate in the areas of business, culture and community. President Teo said that the Chamber would assist members who wish to invest in China as well as help China businesses invest in Singapore or use Singapore as a bridge to invest internationally. Chairman of the International Affairs Committee Roland Ng added that enterprises from China looking to invest in Australia could consider working with companies in Singapore and tap on our familiarity with the Australian market. Meeting Leaders from Lianyungang On August 21, a delegation from the Chamber comprising President Teo Seng Siong and five representatives attended a meeting hosted at the Shangri-La Hotel at the invitation of Li Qiang, Party Secretary of Lianyungang City. Secretary Li expressed his desire to work with the Chamber with regards to developing Lianyungang’s port and logistics services. The meeting also saw the discussion of future areas for cooperation. Visit from Jilin City Government On September 24, Mayor of Jilin City Zhao Jingbo led a 6-member delegation to visit the Chamber. The delegation was received by President Teo Seng Siong and other Chamber representatives. Mayor Zhao gave an update on the development progress of Sino-Singapore Jilin Food Zone and the potential areas for cooperation including the areas of service and industry. President Teo said that the Chamber could communicate with the authorities in Jilin to develop a working agreement. The Chamber would also consider organising a business mission to visit the Food Zone together with other business representatives from Southeast Asia.
