Registration Information Registration for NEW activities begins as soon as Lifestyles is delivered, with the exception of Bingo. Register during regular business hours as listed on page 4 of each Lifestyles. NOTE: REGISTRATION CLOSES 1 HOUR PRIOR TO LODGE CLOSING. Registering early may ensure getting into the program. When the program fills, we will add you to a wait list. There is no charge to add your name to the wait list. We are unable to keep a wait list for ticketed programs.

YARD WASTE Yard waste is picked up the first week of April through the last week of November on the same day as waste/recycling. Yard waste stickers are available for $2.50 at the Meadow View and Prairie Lodge Member Services Desks.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR ACTIVITIES AT MEMBER SERVICES DESKS Resident registration of NEW classes, lectures, movies, one-day trips, or theatre shows is an exclusive privilege for the first 7 days after Lifestyles magazine’s published delivery date. See Special Events Section for Bingo registration information. A single resident in a household may register one guest during this time. After 7 days, as space allows, residents may register their guests. Guests attending an event with a resident pay the resident fee (excluding fitness classes where a $5 per class guest fee is charged). Residents must accompany their guests at all times.

All homeowners who have a warranty concern with their home will call one centralized number and utilize one email address for assistance. This will allow us to handle your concern more quickly and accurately.

Ticket Sales for our theatre shows are available to the General Public of the surrounding communities. The general public fees are $5 more per person than the resident fees.

As I left Lake Barrington Shores, a dear resident gave me a wall hanging that reads, “Your journey is unfolding exactly as it should be”…I couldn’t agree more. It is great to be back here at Sun City Huntley. Thank you for all the well wishes and thoughtful regards; I truly appreciate your kindness. Now it is time to get to work!

I am happy to continue the flow of communication via the “Friday eBlasts” and the monthly “Meet & Greet with the Executive Director” my predecessor started. Also, as those who have worked with me previously may recall, I like to be prepared. I am happy to meet with residents throughout the week; however if possible, I encourage you to contact me prior to stopping by my office. If I know the subject matter, I can be prepared for our meeting and may be able to provide information necessary to resolve the issue.

As 2015 comes to an end, I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the volunteers who consistently contribute their time, energy and vast knowledge to benefit this community. The inspiring dedication of each volunteer is a tremendous example to the management team, fellow residents and the other members of the surrounding community.

Please be reminded that the Lifestyles magazines have been mailed this month and will continue to be delivered via USPS through Spring. If you are a snowbird, please be aware that you may view the magazine on the Sun City web page. Landscape Services Supervisor Below is a general summary discussing what is included in the snow removal throughout the community per contracts with The Brickman Group (Common Areas) and Landscape Concepts Management (Attached Product Neighborhoods).

• Snow removal on Common Area service walks, parking lots and only the public sidewalks that permit entrance and exit to facilities.

• Snow will be cleared from streets and deicing material applied

by Village of Huntley representatives.

• Snow removal services for the Common Areas at Prairie Lodge, Millgrove Woodshop, Meadow View Lodge and Arcadia Condominiums begin when snow accumulations reach ¼ inch or when deicing of pavement is needed.

• Snow removal services for Common Area public sidewalks providing access and egress to facilities begin only if 2 inches of accumulation occur. However services may not commence until snowfall has substantially ceased in order to avoid repeated clearings of the same snowfall. The application of deicing material is not included in the services. The goal for public sidewalks is to have them cleared no later than the end of the second day after the first sidewalk clearing had begun.

• Snow removal from driveways and service walks in the Attached Product Neighborhoods is included for the residents living in these neighborhoods.

• Snow removal services for the Attached Product Neighborhoods begin only if 2 inches of accumulation occur. However services may not commence until snowfall has substantially ceased in order to avoid repeated clearings of the same snowfall. Clearing of snow from in front of the mailboxes and around fire hydrants is provided for the attached homes. The application of deicing material is not included in the services. The goal for services is to have the Attached Product Homes cleared between 6 to 12 hours after the first driveway is started.

• To facilitate proper clearing of the service walk and front stoop as well as to avert damage to personal property it is requested that the residents of Attached Product Homes remove any objects (statues, artifacts or decorative items) from their entryway that may create an obstacle or hazard for the snow removal service. Additionally, low voltage lighting along the service walk is difficult to identify when snow accumulations exceed a few inches and should be removed or protected if possible.

• Community Association Management will attempt to manage the snow removal program as efficiently and as economically as possible. The decision to activate services, the specific time that plows will be engaged and the number of clearings that may be required per snowfall will vary with any given snow event and the conditions that exist. Decisions will be made at the discretion of the Community Association with consideration for the rate of snowfall, wind speed, time of day, anticipated duration of the snowfall, weight of snow, etc.

BACK TO SCHOOL

On October 27, 60 residents from Sun City attended a program sponsored by the neighborhood advisory Council. A panel of teachers, students, and administrators shared highlights of Huntley high school. A tour of the campus was also included.

Everyone was amazed at the facility and the new blended learning style used at the high school. It truly was an interesting experience and all agreed it really is something to see.

For all dance programs, come dressed in dance attire, or aerobic clothing, something loose and comfortable.

Cost is per 4 week session, however you can purchase all sessions posted! Adjustments are made for sessions with fewer weeks. Price of a single session class is $8.

STRUTTERS DANCE CLASSES Dance steps and moves will be studied and instruction given on specific steps in order to create a dance routine. ACC consults with farmers, ag retailers, and seed companies across the northern half of Illinois. The main focus for ACC has been crop scouting and soil sampling, where they not only walk the fields, checking for disease, insects, fertility, and weeds, but they are also making recommendations that are best suited for the grower, financially and environmentally. Our normal Saturday and Wednesday rides are “Show ’n’ Go,” which means we meet at Meadow View Lodge (MVL) and choose a destination as a group. Since we limit our rides to days in which the temperature is over 40 degrees and the streets are dry, rides are getting more scarce as we head into the month of December.

Membership provides special reserved hours for the ladies and men to test and improve their skills at playing pool. For the novice, there are several members who will gladly assist with personalized assistance in order to further enjoy the game. During 2016, the three pool tables are scheduled to be recovered.

The lady “Cue-T’s” have welcomed three new members to their group. As usual, the ladies continue to enjoy their monthly luncheons on the first Tuesday. Jerry Turnquist of the Elgin Area Historical Society will use a variety of photos to tell the story of this amazing factory from its beginning during the Civil War to its rise as the world’s largest watch factory. Eight rigs made the two hour trip to the campground with two additional couples joining the group the next day.

Their stay at the local Ramada Inn demonstrates another way to enjoy the activities of the RV Travelers.

The town of Galena is an interesting place to spend your time walking the streets and checking out the many shops and places to eat. Many of the group have been to Galena before, but continue to enjoy the return visit.

In addition to the town events, other activities included an Iowa Fall Colors Drive along the Mississippi River, golfing for several of our members, a great evening dinner at Timmermans’s Supper Club and campfires at night. All-inall, a fine ending to our Rving season.

The Holidays can be a very difficult time for the bereaved.

Memories of happy celebrations of the past can suddenly bring tears. Parts of our past are gone and the companionship and understanding of other grievers can help. The Sun City Grief Support Group has a meeting every Friday so its members are able to share with others who also have experienced the pain of loss of their spouse. The group welcomes new members. Meeting attendance is open ended and our members attend meetings as they choose.

The group is self-directed by its membership and does not charge people to attend meetings. We help each other in the rebuilding of our lives. We have found that through caring and sharing comes healing.
