This impressive recreational and research complex surrounds Winthrop Lake and is located approximately one mile from the main campus. Facilities include the Winthrop Coliseum, as well as baseball, softball, tennis, soccer and track complexes, an outdoor education center, a protected Piedmont wetlands, and several recreational fields. A challenging 18-hole disc golf course has been the site of U.S. and World Disc Golf Championships. A driving range, where visitors may hit and retrieve their own golf balls, is located near the Winthrop Ballpark. The one-mile loop around the lake, is one of approximately five miles of walking and bike trails that crisscross the complex and conveniently connect to Rock Hill’s public trails.

Get away from life’s hectic pace with a stroll on 3 1/2 plus miles of scenic trails at River Park. This 70-acre park along the Catawba River, also includes a kayak/ canoe launch, an outdoor classroom, picnic tables and a large picnic shelter. Trails include the River Trail along the Catawba River and the Wetlands Trail – both are handicapped accessible. The Waterford Trail connects River Park to the nearby Waterford Business Park. River Park is the perfect setting to learn about the delicate balance between man and his natural resources. Open daily 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. October to February, and 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. March to September.

This 68-acre facility includes a playground, picnic tables and grills, a large covered picnic shelter, an enclosed shelter for informal gatherings, and a 1 1/2 mile lighted, secured walking, biking and jogging trail. Admission is free. Fees are charged to attend weekend softball tournaments. Gracing the entrance to the softball/baseball fields is a 14-foot bronze sculpture modeled after the legendary ballplayer, Mighty Casey.

Manchester Meadows features six regulation and two championship soccer fields, stadium seating for 1,500, and a soccer pavilion with concessions, restrooms, park offices, and a multi-purpose meeting space. But, it’s much more than just soccer! The park also provides a large Lake Pavilion, picnic tables and grills, a playground, and trails that wind around creeks and lead to the Manchester Village shopping area, restaurants and hotels.
