Crealdé School of Art is a community-based nonprofit organization established in 1975. We feature an affordable, sequential curriculum of more than 125 studio courses and workshops taught by professional artist instructors in Painting & Drawing, Photography, Ceramics, Sculpture, Fiber Arts, Glass and Jewelry for adults and children, with hands-on experience emphasized. There are five 8-week sessions per year, plus Summer ArtCamp and Young Adult Immersion.

Hannibal Square Heritage Center, Crealdé’s second campus, represents a partnership with the City of Winter Park, and pays tribute to the past, present and future contributions of Winter Park’s African American community through an award-winning permanent collection of historic photographs and oral histories. Established by Crealdé in 2007, the center also features visiting visual art exhibitions and educational programs that explore Southern folklore and cultural preservation.

In addition, Crealdé offers an award-winning scholarship and outreach program to diverse communities in Central Florida. Two galleries on the main campus present a changing variety of multidisciplinary visual art exhibitions by regional, national and international artists. The Contemporary Sculpture Garden overlooking Lake Sterling features more than 60 pieces of original art.

From Ella to Coltrane: The Jazz Photography of Roger Kallins On View: September 16, 2022– January 16, 2023 Opening Event: Friday, September 16 | 7–10pm 7–8:30pm | Alice & Wiliam Jenkins Gallery 8–10pm | Hannibal Square Heritage Center Visiting Exhibition Gallery with Live Jazz We are proud to partner with Blue Bamboo Center for the Arts, who will present a free live jazz performance by The Eddie Marshall Trio at Hannibal Square Heritage Center. This exhibition commemorates the late British photographer Roger Kallins (19382013), highlighting some of his best jazz images taken over a period of 50 years. The 45 images on display are originals, scanned from 35mm black-and-white negatives and printed on archival watercolor paper by Kallins himself. They are generously on loan by Anthony Ehrlich for this two-venue exhibition. This will be the first showing of Kallins’ work to the Orlando public. Cocurated by Juliana Romnes, Anthony Ehrlich and Peter Schreyer.

This exhibition is a culmination of work by documentary photographers and plein air painters who sought to capture the culture and landscape of Lake Apopka. 50 fine art pieces were originally exhibited with accompanying historic text, connecting the area’s past with its future. A collection of local and nationally known artists produced 10 plein air paintings, and a master class of photographers created 40 archival blackand-white photographs with oral histories. Highlights from the Crealdé traveling exhibition will be on exhibit at Winter Garden City Hall from September to October 2022.

Private Classes

For a private, one-on-one learning experience, consider these opportunities to study with a Crealdé professional artist/instructor. Create a schedule and learning curriculum that fits your needs and availability. Topics can range from the basics of a particular art medium, exploring a specific new technique, brushing up on an old skill, all the way to portfolio development. Cost: $300 for five hours of private instruction in Crealdé’s professional art studios, including a 30-minute initial phone consultation and three 1.5-hour class sessions. Materials not included. Emerging artists from Crealdé’s photography, ceramics and sculpture disciplines share their talent in work produced during their programs. The Crealdé Fellowship Program, since 1978 and the Studio Artist Program, since 1996, have mentored an average of 25 students per year through this work-study exchange. The work of these artists is also a testament to the talent and dedication of the Crealdé faculty mentors.

Instructor: Stefan Alexandres FALL I | Wed: 5–7pm Skill Level: All Explore the art of filigree jewelry; how to make pendants, earrings, rings, etc. focusing only on the silver filigree process and procedures. Students will be guided through this ancient filigree fabrication technique. There will be specific projects planned by the instructor with samples, demonstrations, and hands-on projects. Silver material will be provided for use in the class only and limited to the projects and assignments planned by the instructor. This class does not include any stone setting techniques. Macramé Plant Hanger Workshop

Instructor: Alysa Foxson FALL I | Sat, August 20 | 1–4pm Skill: All Macramé is a form of textile that uses knotting techniques and comes from the 13th century weavers’ word for “fringe.” This fiber art was popular in the 60s and 70s and now it is back and as popular as ever. Join artist Alyssa Foxson and embrace your inner boho goddess, for an all new Macramé Plant Hanger Workshop. Learn all the basic macramé knots needed to make a macramé plant hanger and beyond. All supplies are included and you will leave this workshop with a beautiful boho macramé planter to display your plant babies! Members $110 • Non-members $130

FALL I & II | Wed: 2:30–4:30pm Studio 7 | Skill: All Experience the fundamental processes of cutting, forging, metal texturing, hammering, sawing and soldering silver. The course includes: bezel stone setting for cabochon gemstones, polishing techniques and combining sterling silver sheet metal with fine silver wire, etc. Specific projects, planned by the instructor, will focus on how to make silver rings, pendants, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings. Silver provided. Note: the use of silver material or gemstones will be limited to the scheduled projects planned by the instructor. Open to people of all writing levels as your writing is unique to you. We write together and share by reading our assignments to each other to make your writing stronger. Listening to others helps us improve our writing too. With the use of prompts such as paintings, photographs, quotations, items, and more you will tap into your own creativity. Each week, we will write together and have positive critique. See your stories unfold. We will discuss a variety of literary techniques used to strengthen our stories. Students learn how to prepare the wax form for casting, and the ceramic shell mold-making process. David uses the latest mold-making materials available and students witness a bronze pour at the end of the class. Cost includes the casting of one five pound bronze with option to purchase additional material for large works. Instructor: David Cumbie FALL II: Tuesdays: 2:30–4:30pm FALL II: Tuesdays: 5–7pm Skill Beginner Learn the fundamental process for traditional blacksmithing, Students will use the hammer to forge hot steel on the anvil and learn how to make door handles, hooks, and ornamental scrolls. Practice techniques such as flattening, upsetting, twisting, punching, drawing, and familiarity with the blacksmith forge. All materials included. WKS41 Fall I: Saturday, August 27 | 10am–2pm David will demonstrate a variety of mold-making techniques using clay, plaster, low temperature wax, alginate, latex, and silicon. Castings will be made using hydrocal plaster, plastic, wax, and a variety of cements. This is a demonstration, no materials required. Members $90 • Non-members $110

Crash Course: The Portrait Bust WKS40 Fall I: Saturday, September 3 | 10am–2pm David will create a clay sculpture demonstrating techniques of armature construction, application of clay, and the basic proportions of the head. The lecture and demonstration will include information on educational material, modeling materials, and finishing of the final works. This is a demonstration, no materials required. WKS05 Instructor: David Cumbie Skill: All | Studio 6 Fall I: Sat. & Sun., September 17 & 18 | 10am–4pm Sat. & Sun., October 8 & 9 | 10am–4pm An introduction to a variety of techniques in the creation of wax sculptures. Once the wax sculptures are made, students prepare their own waxes with gates and sprues in preparation for the ceramic mold-making process. Waxes are coated with state of the art ceramic shell and then the wax will be burned out and the molten bronze poured into the molds. Cost includes a five pound bronze sculpture, with the option to purchase additional material for large works. Members $390 • Non-members $410

Instructor: David Hunter Saturday & Sunday, December 10 & 11 | 9am–5pm Skill: All This workshop will provide an introduction into the exciting world of Intaglio (pronounced in-talyo meaning “incised”) chemical (actual etching) techniques, and the use of hard ground, soft ground and aquatint. Inking techniques such as simple monochromatic exploration, and color printing examples as a la poupeé and multiple plates are included. Non-chemical technique as drypoint will also be demonstrated along with materials for use. We will also discuss editions, framing, and care of original prints. Bring three small (4” X 6”) drawings on paper such as scrap computer paper (no watercolor paper, heavy drawing paper. Learn to paint by following the traditions of ancient masters of an art form that developed alongside the invention of the basic strokes of character writing. Philosophy, traditions, techniques and set-up will be covered. Familiar themes include bamboo, blossoms, plants, insects, animals and other elements of nature. Crealdé School of Art is like a family, and we want you as a family member. Crealdé membership allows you to actively participate in the arts community with benefits such as $20 OFF all classes and workshops, plus invitations to gallery receptions, special lectures, and members-only events. Join us and support our mission founded on the idea that art is for everyone, and everyone has a story worth telling. Your membership helps us serve our shared community — not only by keeping classes and workshops affordable, but also supporting scholarships, free educational exhibitions, public art and outreach programs for special populations.

It is easy to join! Individual membership is only $40 per year, or $65 for an entire household! Membership levels at $100 and above earn additional benefits.
