CLASS O F 1989

Lisa Spoelhof Schra Lisa Spoelhof Schra graduated with the SBS Class of 1989. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English with minors in German and biology from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Currently, Schra is the athletic director at the International Christian School of Vienna. “Since college my husband and I have been working in Grand Rapids, Michigan with various non-profit organizations. My work is typically in the area of fundraising and development. Three years ago, my family and I moved to Vienna, Austria to join the ministry of the International Christian School of Vienna (ICSV). Currently my husband, Jeffrey, serves as the finance manager, and I serve as the athletic director and also coach girls basketball. The school has a unique blend of 250 students from over 40 nations. While the school is intentionally Christian, not every student is a Christian and many are hearing the gospel for the first time. We are excited to be part of the ministry of ICSV impacting the nations for Christ. ICSV is always looking for

good teachers. If you are interested, check out our website at www.icsv.at or email me at lisa.schra@gmail.com,” said Schra. Schra’s favorite memory from SBS was playing basketball with her sister (Amanda Spoelhof VanTil ’91) and five other girls. “We had a small team but we had a lot of heart. We were even pretty good, I think,” said Schra. “I am thankful for each of the teachers I had at SBS. They really cared about each of us and poured their lives into us. I am thankful they challenged and encouraged me to grow.“

Lisa’s advice to SBS students: “Enjoy your time in high school. Make the most of the opportunities given to you, whether in class or in after-school activities. It’s a time of life when you are being stretched in so many ways. It can be hard, but with each challenge know that you are growing stronger and stronger. Challenges can also remind you to depend more on God. A life lesson I am still learning.”
