With Erica Moffitt Dilks Welcome from Rabbi Sarah Tasman Shehecheyanu Blessing We begin our ceremony with the blessing of Shehechiyanu that is recited at the arrival of any long awaited special occasion. This blessing speaks to our thankfulness for life itself, the family and friends gathered together, and for this very moment of joy and celebration. This blessing is also recited on the very first occasion of Saylor wearing her talit (prayer shawl). After reciting the blessing, Pleasance and Mel will put it on Saylor’s shoulders.

Recognition of those who are not able to be with us

Dedication of Ceremony Yvette Sztycer born Paris, France, March 10, 1932 - Murdered in 1942.

Yvette lived in Paris, we share the same birthday but Yevette was killed in the Holocaust at 10 years old and never had a chance to celebrate her Bat Mitzvah, so today we honor her. AND This ceremony is also dedicated to My Great, Great Aunt Sally Title who passed away in the summer of 2020. What a personality she had! I wish she could be with us today, hopefully she is in spirit. She would have loved this gathering with family.

Havdalah Service Havdalah is a Hebrew word meaning “division” or “separation” and is the name of this ritual that formally ends Shabbat, “separating” it from the beginning of the new week. The Havdalah ritual has 4 blessings, each highlighting different symbols and senses. The first is a blessing over wine, which we will taste. Next, a blessing over fragrant spices, which we will smell and touch. Then a blessing over light, using a special candle with two or more braided wicks, which we will see. Then a final blessing that distinguishes Shabbat from the rest of the days of the week, which we will hear. We will conclude with the song Eliyahu HaNavi (Elijah the Prophet) or Miriam Ha Nevia (Miriam the Prophetess).

‫עִָּזי ְוזִמ ְָרת י ָּה ַויְהִי לִי לִיׁשּועָה‬ Ozi v’zimrat Yah vay’hi li lishuah.

God is my strength and song, and has become my salvation​​.

You are forever powerful, Adonai; You give life to all, reviving the dead.
