LEATHER So much depends on the quality of leather, of course. We use only the finest tanned top grade cattle hides from top British and European tanners. All of our upholstery covers are hand cut to templates from full hides. It’s the only way to achieve a uniform quality and finish. All leathers used by Saxon have been produced to the relevant European production standards for upholstery leathers.
FRAME The strength and backbone of any piece of furniture. So we use only the finest quality seasoned Beech hardwood, harvested from a managed renewable source. Hardly the cheapest solution, but indisputably the best. We use Beech because it is a straight grained timber with few knots. An absence of knots is an absence of weak points and straight grained means no warping or twisting. For added strength all joints are dowelled and glued with screwed corner strengthening blocks. For all occasional furniture items, the frames are of solid hardwoods. These are built traditionally to the same exacting standards, before being stained and polished to enhance the natural beauty of the wood. All polished frame items are available in five wood finishes. Mahogany, Dark Oak, Yew, Black and White.

THE FINEST MATERIALS
BUTTONS You’re talking to the button experts! All buttons are attached as part of the upholstery process by hand and sunk deep for neatness and security. A Saxon button won’t come loose.
SUSPENSION Different furniture shapes require different suspension systems to produce the correct “feel” to the sitting position. At Saxon you can rely on us to make the right choice. We use either the interwoven elastabelt system, metal serpentine springs or coil spring units dependent upon the individual furniture shape and the sitting posture required. As the suspension is the “heart” of any piece of furniture, reliability is a high priority and we choose only the finest raw materials from proven British suppliers.
STUDS Essential to the traditional classic finish. These metal stud nails are individually hand tacked through the leather and into the wooden frame. The studs are of an antique bronze finish. Brass finished studs and Chrome finished studs are also available as an optional extra. Please refer to our price list for further information.
PADDING Comfort is all important with any piece of furniture, it’s so easy for the result to be too hard or too soft. To achieve the correct balance requires an individual combination of different high density fillings to ensure lasting shape retention and optimum comfort.

A pigmented and corrected grain hide that is dyed through and then applied with a darker florenteak top coat. After the furniture has been upholstered we undertake a hand antiquing process which removes areas of the top coat to produce a subtle aged look.

At Saxon we have our own liveried delivery vehicles manned by an experienced team of uniformed delivery staff and we carry out all of our own deliveries within the mainland UK. Our Transport Department will advise you of the week commencing date for your delivery and nearer the time they will contact you again with the exact half day time slot. On delivery, our helpful two man delivery teams will position your furniture within your chosen room and allow you sufficient time to give it a thorough examination before bidding you farewell. We have been delivering our furniture nationwide for over thirty years and the regular messages of praise that we receive for our transport teams reflects the importance that we put on this final stage of your purchase.

OPTIONS At Saxon we offer various options to allow you to personalise your furniture.
STUDS These are an essential to the traditional classic finish. These metal stud nails are individually hand tacked through the leather and into the wooden frame. Our standard studs are of an antique bronze finish. Brass and Chrome finished studs are also available as an optional extra.
WOODEN BUN FEET
Our wooden bun feet are an attractive alternative to castors. These solid wooden bun feet not only give an authentic visual finish to the base of your furniture but are ideal for polished wooden or tiled floors. Our bun feet are available in five wood finishes; Mahogany, Dark Oak, Yew, Black and White. Bun Feet are an optional extra on our Cherished collection styles.
