647. Digital Photography II A perfect follow-up to Digital Photography Level I (class 606) this next class will give you a greater understanding of your camera’s more advanced features. Learn about white balance, creative uses for aperture and shutter speed, metering modes, lens choice, and advanced flash settings. We will also discuss file management and basic computer photo editing such as cropping and color adjustment. This course is recommended for anyone who is comfortable with the basics of their camera, but wants to go beyond the essentials and learn more creative uses of their advanced functions. It is designed for cameras that have the ability to adjust aperture and shutter speed. We will spend half the class in lecture and half the class photographing and practicing techniques. Core Classes 665. An Introduction to Photoshop and Lightroom Learn to use Photoshop and Lightroom to perform a variety of functions useful for photographers. This class is an introduction to the Photoshop and Lightroom interfaces including the toolbox, options bar, main menu, palettes and the tools within them. Learn to crop, rotate, re-size, dodge and burn, remove dust and scratches, perform global tonal adjustments and color corrections, organize your photos and more. This is a great class for those wanting to enhance their photos and create stronger, more striking images, and perfect for Adobe Cloud users who have access to both Photoshop and Lightroom. 606. Digital Photography I This first course will introduce you to the most fundamental controls on your digital camera. Learn both in class and through take-home assignments about the basic controls of your camera, exposure, ISO, shutter speed, aperture, and composition essentials. We will also discuss how to upload your images to a computer and basic file storage. We will spend half the class in lecture and half the class photographing and practicing techniques. This course is recommended for anyone who has used their camera but still needs help getting better images and understanding basic camera functions. It is designed for cameras that have the ability to adjust aperture and shutter speed. Please bring your camera and manual to each class.

620. The Digital Photographer’s Workflow This new class has been created in response to requests from those wishing to understand and improve their digital workflow. Whether a hobbyist or professional photographer, a smooth and organized workflow is essential in the effective management and editing of a digital photographic library of images. This 6 week class covers the complete workflow, beginning with camera set-up, importing, organizing and editing using Adobe Lightroom, specific editing within Adobe Photoshop, and finally exporting and optimizing images for output, whether for printing or web. Over the years, Adobe Lightroom has become a stand-alone and powerful program, forming the industry standard in managing, editing and exporting image files, and forms the backbone of this course. 684. An Introduction to Darkroom Photography Without a doubt, learning darkroom techniques is one of the best ways to improve your photography skills and create a photographic legacy for your family. Create images that come to life right in front of your eyes! Whether you are a beginner, old pro, or looking to reconnect with your darkroom roots, this class is for you. Become familiar with darkroom equipment and processes and print from your own black and white negatives. Class includes use of the darkroom during the class duration. Film SLR cameras required. 671. Darkroom II – Advanced Techniques and Mentoring For those who can’t get enough of the darkroom or are ready to take their darkroom skills to the next level. Bring your negatives to print from, or film rolls to develop and take advantage of our beautiful darkroom space. During class times, our facilitators will be on hand when you need them to guide you and to give you suggestions on how to improve your prints. You will also have plenty of time on your own, as students enrolled in this class will also have use of the darkroom outside of class time if needed during the duration of the 6-week class. Students should have attended the Introduction to Darkroom Photography class. 625. Fall Open Darkroom Studio For those who have darkroom experience and wish to take advantage of the darkroom facility in their own time. Proof of darkroom experience is required, or previous attendance at one of our darkroom classes. Darkroom passes and orientation provided by the photography department. Fall Sawtooth Photo League The Sawtooth Photo League offers a chance for current Sawtooth photo students and instructors to meet and stay connected once class is over; continue education by offering critique, tips, and support from other photographers; suggest new photographic themes to explore; suggest classes to take for further education; enjoy guest speakers to inspire our photography; participate in photography-themed movie nights and photo walks. The Sawtooth Photo League will take an active part in documenting life in downtown Winston-Salem, keeping the Sawtooth School and our downtown arts district connected while documenting the changes taking place in our downtown area. We usually meet the third Saturday of each month, though our dates may vary. Location: Computer Lab Facilitator Amanda Sullivan
